Cougar Chronicles
September 2, 2022
Dear LSE Family,
We LOVED having everyone for an amazing back to school IN PERSON bbq! We have misssed this event so much over the past few years! Thank you to all of you that took time out of your busy schedule to come out and enjoy some time with your LSE family.
We hope you enjoyed some time meeting all of our staff and making some connections with LSE families! Wasn't the Bookmobile just fabulous?!! If you didn't have time to stop by our PTA booth to join PTA or get your LSE swag - you can click on the link below and order online!
This week we practiced all of our emergency drills! We practiced our Tornado Drill, our Fire Drill, and our Hard Lockdown Drill. Our students and staff did a fabulous job! We will practice these regularly throughout the year!
Don't forget about those free/reduced lunch forms! They are super important and really do help at home - especially with the rising cost of just about everything!
We have another event coming up on September 15th - BIST for Parents and Schoology 101. We will have two locations set up and switch so you can attend both! We hope to see you there!
Thank you for being such an integral part of our school community!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tracy Sanders, Principal

Healthy Habits Calendar and Challenge from Coach Carey
Hello! I am the PE Teacher here at Lee's Summit Elementary. I am starting something new with all the students this year and need your help. I am starting a Healthy Habits Activity Calendar that will help students start understanding the importance of being healthy and making better choices when it comes to food. Each week, there will be a different challenge to try and focus on Fitness, Family, Food, and Fun.
The first week they will focus on their Fitness (Sept 5-11) and any challenge they complete on the sheet they will circle and get a point for their class. Week 2 (Sept 12-18) focuses on Family and helping around the house. Week 3 (Sept 19-25) focuses on Food and eating healthy. And the last week, week 4 (Sept 26-30) focuses on Fun, where they can choose from a variety of activities on the sheet that are fun. I will be sure to remind students each week what the focus is on and help them out here in PE.
I have talked with all the students about this and they are to share this calendar with you. Then, they are to make a plan and discuss how they can complete as many of these challenges as possible. This is completely optional, as I have told all the students and they do not have to participate. At the end of the month, the students will need to bring their sheet back in so I can tally up the total number of points each class has. The class with the most points will have their picture taken and posted in the Cougar Chronicles, put up on the TV's by the front, and they get to keep a trophy in their room for that month. I will send home a new calendar at the end of each month so they can make a plan for the upcoming one. If they happen to ever lose it you can find it here in the Cougar Chronicles or have them let me know the next day and I can print one off for them. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
Thank you!
Coach Carey

Thank you for helping us!
LSE School Safety Considerations
- If students forget something at home, there will be an "Oops" table outside on the front porch. Familes can leave the item on the table with a sticker on the item - student's name/grade/teacher and we will deliver the item to the classroom.
- If a student is tardy or brought to school late - the adult dropping off the student will call the office at 816-986-3340 - state the reason for being late. The student will be welcomed into LSE.
- Visitors and Volunteers will be allowed back this year after the first two weeks of school. Lunchroom visitors will be welcomed to eat lunch with their child.
- No visitors are allowed on the playground or past the cafeteria without prior approval.
- Volunteers must go through district training and be vetted through our vistor management system.
- All visitors will be greeted through the intercom system on the porch.
- All visitors and volunteers must enter and exit through the front door on Green Street, check in through the office, and wear a visible badge.
- Please SLOW DOWN through our school zones on Green and 2nd Street!
- Please Stop and Wait for our crossing guards and be courteous of our school buses.
- Parents of Car Riders can not line up until after 3:45 - we have students on the playground until 3:45.
- Please DO NOT drop students off in the middle of the street on Wilson or Green Street - we can not see them around cars and buses - that is what our car rider line is for!
