WBMS Friday Notes
2/5/21
Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
We kicked off our Black History Month Celebration with a spirit week. On Monday we wore red, black and green or colors and attire that celebrated our heritage; on Tuesday we wore hats for “hats off to respect” day; on Wednesday we wore neon to “glow with integrity and positivity”, and Thursday we wore crazy socks to “sock it to racism and discrimination”, and today we wore jerseys and shirts to show support for our favorite teams and schools, especially Historically Black Colleges and Universities, to illustrate how teams and schools persevere. This month during the announcements, we are also featuring poems, music, and learning to deepen our knowledge. Additionally, please check out the essay contest listed in Friday Notes; it is open to all students and offers some great prizes.
This week WBMS tested out the capability of ALL of our students logging on to TEAMS together. Initially schools were directed not to have all students on TEAMS when we are in the simultaneous setting, which has caused barriers when teachers want all students to interact together or collaborate as a class. Students also reported that they cannot hear the students who are at school when they are at home. I am happy to report the test worked, and we now have the green light for all students to join TEAMS at the same time when it will enhance the learning (Breakout rooms with both F2F and remote students or a full class discussion).
Lastly, I gave our first-ever State of the School Address on Wednesday. Thank you to those who tuned in. For those who were not able to view it, there is a link to the recording below. Please take a few minutes to offer feedback once you have found time to watch it. We hope to make this an annual event and improve upon this year’s presentation.

The Fulton County Board of Health and Fulton County Schools have developed an on-line portal for FCS parents/guardians to report student COVID-19 related cases. The portal has been updated for Spanish, Korean, and Chinese. FCS parent/guardians will find a dropdown at the top right for translations. www.fultonschools.org/ReportCOVID Please make a report to the FCBOH when your student is COVID-19 positive, has a pending COVID-19 test result, or has been in direct contact with a COVID-19 positive person. Also, please use this resource for official reporting rather than alerting the school and/or teacher. If you must engage the school/teacher, please do so after you have made an official report to the FCBOH. Lastly, to ensure the protection of our school community, please do not allow your child to attend school or school-sponsored events when he/she is ill and/or has any of the above COVID-19 concerns.
Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year and Professional of the Year!
As 2021 TOTY, Mrs. Bernhardt receives a weekend test drive in a new 4 Series from United BMW.
Congratulations to you both!
So Thankful For Our Amazing Counselors!
