Save those Boxtops
Once again this year, PGE is participating in the Boxtops for Education program.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school.
Last School Year 2016-17, we earned $711.80 for our school from Box Tops. Since PGE has been enrolled in the program (about 25 years), PGE has received a lifetime amount of $10,459.35 from the Boxtops Program and still growing strong.
For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.
THANK YOU!
Pomaria Lutheran Church
St. Phillip's Lutheran Church
The Heritage at Lowman
Thank you to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Youth Ministry for the goody bags given to teachers at the beginning of the year. We have sure enjoyed our sweet and salty treats during breaks and after school.
One more thank you to Morris Chapel. Morris Chapel donates "happy sacks" of food to more than 20 of our students to take home over the weekend. I wish you could see the smiles of those children each Friday morning. They are overjoyed and thankful for that sack of food.
From Nurse Maggie
There are tips below to help prevent head lice. Also, just a reminder that flu shots are available and parents are encouraged to get students vaccinated, as there are already confirmed cases of the flu in our area.
Tips for preventing your child from getting head lice:
• Discourage head-to-head contact and sharing of hats, scarves, hairbrushes and combs.
• Tie long hair back.
• Always send your child’s own sleeping bag, towel and pillow to sleepovers.
• You cannot prevent head lice by using head lice shampoos or products – use them only
if you have head lice.
• Check young school age children weekly for head lice; more often if there has been a
known exposure to someone with head lice.
What to do if your child has head lice:
• Notify your child’s school nurse. The nurse can give you specific instructions for the
treatment of head lice.
• Check the heads of all family members.
• All family members with head lice should be treated at the same time.
• Tell all close contacts of the person with head lice to check their head.
Important points to remember:
1. Be sensitive to your child’s feelings!
2. Lack of cleanliness does not cause head lice.
3. Both children and adults can get head lice.
4. Short hair does not prevent the spread of lice.
5. Head lice do not live on dogs, cats or other animals.

PGE Rock Painting Club Spreads LOVE
Here are a few rocks that were painted by our PGE Rock Painting Club. These students are LOVING THEIR PASSENGERS (Energy Bus Principle #6) by spreading positive messages to students at PGE.
The rocks will be placed around the PGE grounds for our students to "find" and "hide" to spread love and joy.
Energy Bus Principle #2 - Create A Positive Vision
You can use this as a time to set goals with your children at home as well. You can start small. A good example is that our students can set a goal to "lay their clothes out for school each night before bed". Goal setting leads to goal reaching. Our students can do it!

Red Ribbon Week
Monday: “Team Spirit Day” Team Up Against Drugs!
Tuesday: “Pajama Day” “We Are Dreaming Of Staying Drug Free!”
Wednesday: “Twin Day” “Two Smart to Do Drugs”
Thursday: “Red Day” “We Are RED-DY To Say No To Drugs!”

Take the National Red Ribbon Campaign Pledge now and be a part of the creation of a drug free America.
What's the Pledge about?
- As parents and citizens, we will talk to our children and the children in our lives about the dangers of drug abuse.
- We will set clear rules for our children about not using drugs.
- We will set a good example for our children by not using illegal drugs or medicine without a prescription.
- We will monitor our children's behavior and enforce appropriate consequences, so that our rules are respected.
- We will encourage family and friends to follow the same guidelines to keep children safe from substance abuse.
Inviting all 1st grade students and parents!
First grade teachers invite parents and students to join us at "Carve Out Time For a Good Book" Night from 5:45-6:45 right before the PTO meeting on October 16. Parents and students will enjoy time reading books from a large selection of fall themed fiction and non-fiction titles that your child will "fall" in love with. Parents will also be given some helpful tools (hints, strategies, ideas) for reading with their first grader. These tools will help our first graders to be successful this year and to meet the end of the year reading goal.
After reading, you and your child will enjoy decorating a pumpkin like a favorite character from one of the books you read. Everything you need to do this will be provided so come on out and make some memories!
