CAASPP Testing Grades 3-5 Begins Next Week

Dear Anna Yates Families,

Welcome back from our weeklong break! As all students in Grades 3-5 begin with State Testing (CAASPP) for English Language Arts and Math (Gr.5 will also participate in Science and Physical Fitness Tests), please help ensure their success by supporting and reinforcing the below.

Before the test, please support them in:

  • Getting enough sleep the night before
  • Eating Breakfast
  • Attending school daily and be on time (8:30 a.m.)

During the test, please remind them to:

  • Not rush; it is not a timed test
  • Read and reread the directions carefully
  • Draft and show their work before entering responses
  • Review your answers before moving on; they are unable to go back once an answer is submitted
  • Use their test taking strategies they have been practicing

Testing Begins:

  • Grade 5: April 24- May 19
  • Grade 3 and 4: May 2- May 12

Sincerely,

Mrs. Burke

Grab a cup of coffee and a snack and we look forward to greeting you, even briefly, before your leave campus and your morning begins.

Summer School Applications Due: April 24

This year the district will offer a summer Expanded Learning Opportunity Program free of charge for the district's students in grades TK-8. The program will run Monday-Thursday and Friday, 7/21. The dates will be 6/20-7/21 and the students will have 4 options: academic interventions (8:30 -12:30), academic interventions and enrichment (8:30 - 2:30), or academic interventions, enrichment, and city programming (8:30 - 5:30), and one of the first three choices plus an additional week or 2 weeks with the City of Emeryville summer camp.

Please fill out a separate application for each child. This is an official application, so please fill it out even if you already responded to the survey. This application will close on Monday, 4/24.

All students will have an opportunity to preview the Book Fair on Monday with their class.

Open House: April 26

We hope you will join us at our Open House on Wednesday, April 26 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. as we close out the year with an opportunity to see the learning and progress that has taken place this year.

Help Us Support Teacher Appreciation Week: May 8-12

The week of May 8-12 is Teacher Appreciation Week and I would love any and all support in celebrating and appreciating our teachers. We will create baskets for each teacher so some suggested ways to contribute if you chose to could be by adding gift cards, snacks, plants, relaxation items.

For anyone wanting to make a monetary donation, you are welcome to send the donation through cash app to $aymsstuco. Please state in the notes who it is from and what teacher is is going towards.

Please Help Us Improve Our Attendance Rates

In the month of March, all but one class had lower attendance rates compared to the month of February. Our current average attendance per class is 90-93% which is very low. Please help us improve our schoolwide attendance by being on time and present daily and if you have any questions, please check in with the office!

Masks: No Longer Required Indoors

As of Monday, April 3, 2023, masks have no longer been required in our schools, but students and staff are welcome to wear a mask if it is their preference. We encourage families to take COVID-19 tests at home if they are feeling sick, and we ask students to stay home and follow the new COVID-19 isolation guidelines. We ask students and staff to consider wearing a mask during school if they are exhibiting symptoms of illness.

Please Complete The Survey!

We continue to ask parents to complete the California School Parent Survey. This survey is an opportunity to communicate your perceptions about your child’s school and will help us learn more about your opinions about Anna Yates.
