Academics
Math- This week we will practice the routines involved in math workshop (rotating from station to station, using the iPads, working in groups, etc.) and begin the first unit in math. Our first math unit is "Place Value and Multidigit Addition and Subtraction." This week we will focus on place value (up to one million). We will also begin rounding numbers.
Writing - In our first writing unit we will be writing realistic fiction stories. To begin this unit we will immerse ourselves in non-fiction stories so that students can build their background knowledge of this genre, and generate ideas for their writing.
Science - In our first unit in science we will be learning about ecosystems. Science will begin next week as we wait for our supplies to arrive.
Social Studies - In recognition of Constitution Day this Thursday, we will be taking a look at the Preamble of the Constitution and determining the meaning behind each part of it. We will also start our first unit in social studies this week be thinking like a historian and looking at primary and secondary sources.
Reading- So many of our students came into 4th grade with strong reading habits and were eager to begin reading! During our first week in our first writing unit, we will further develop these habits, set reading goals, and choose "just right books".
