Social Emotional Learning at Home with Mrs. Allen, School Counselor
Take Action
Sure, it’s great to teach your child about being kind, having good character, and so on, but it’s a whole different learning experience when you act on it. Below you will see some ways that you can model SEL core principles and teach kindness:
Write kind letters to people. There are so many people that need this right now, like nurses, doctors, police officers, etc. Write letters with your child and email them so these hard-working people can feel acknowledged ASAP. Another option is to make homemade greetings or cards or postcards and mail them or hold onto them until it’s safe to be out and about.
Talk to your children about donating by explaining different struggles people are experiencing, on top of dealing with COVID-19. We sometimes forget during these hectic times that people are experiencing hardships other than getting the virus, such as unemployment and financial struggles. There is no better time than right now to teach about giving.
Teach your kids to offer help at home by modeling what that looks like. For example, if you see that mom is doing the laundry, simply go over and start helping. Then, give your children jobs such as putting the clothes in the correct pile. Kids tend to follow the actions of those around them, so this is one you can teach without having to say much!
Have a great week!
Bobcat Parents/Guardians
This week students in 3rd-5th grade will be taking district checkpoint assessments. This will be taken during the day. No changes will be made to the master schedule. This checkpoint is based on objectives that have been covered so far, and will be taken for a grade. Please encourage your students to do their best. If you have any questions or need clarification please contact Brenda Kieso at brendak@springisd.org or Jessica Keelan at jkeelan@springisd.org.
PARENTS - ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Please send your scholar to school each day! Scholars should only stay home if they:
-have a fever
-had fever in the last 24 hours
-have COVID
-were directly exposed to COVID and are showing symptoms with test results pending
Parents, in order for these absences to be within the TEA COVID Leave, we must have your child's test results, both positive and negative and the dates must align within the dates of the absences.
Remember, all students are required to be in attendance for 90% of the school year to get credit for that grade level and avoid any truancy filings.
90% is the STATE REQUIREMENT for the school year, for every child, PreK and K included!

Attention Please: Restroom Accidents Can Happen
Restroom accidents can happen at anytime in spite of our scholars best efforts to get to the restroom in a timely manner. Please help your scholar by placing an extra change of clothes (including underclothing) in a Ziplock bag with your scholar's name and grade level. This should remain in your scholar's back pack, so he or she has it if a restroom accident should occur.
Thank you for your assistance! Together, we can make the difference!

SPRING ISD GENERAL INFORMATION
Lion Players Theatre Company to present “Pinkalicious” Oct. 21-25 at Spring High School
Spring High School’s Lion Players Theatre Company is presenting its annual fall children’s show on Oct. 21, 22, 23 and 25. This year’s show is “Pinkalicious,” based on the popular children’s book by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann.
The play tells the colorful, humorous and heartwarming tale of its heroine, Pinkalicious, who loves the color pink so much that she can’t stop eating her favorite pink cupcakes until she herself turns pink – from head to toe! Pinkalicious is thrilled to find herself turning her favorite color, but her parents and her doctor aren’t so sure. With lessons about family, love and acceptance, and learning to be yourself, “Pinkalicious” promises something for everyone.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 21, 22, 23 and 25 (with no performance on Sunday). Additional matinee performances will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. All performances will take place in the performing arts center at Spring High School, 19428 I-45, Spring, TX 77373. Each performance of the play will last approximately 45 minutes.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 5-12. They can be purchased at the box office before each performance, and online at LionPlayersTheatreCompany.com.
