Something to Yelle About
Weekly Newsletter for the Henri A. Yelle Elementary
Some Things Might Be & Look Different But We Are Loving It All The Same!
Yelle Newsletter for September 18th
Hello from the Yelle.
One week in the books!
It was amazing, nerve-wracking, different, incredible, new, and phenomenal experience all at the same time. We do though all love it so much that we are able to have kids back in the building. It truly is so awesome to hear the buzz of learning in the classrooms and see the students.
It had been too long, and we just want it to continue. We need to keep everyone safe, so we continue to stress in order to keep us going for the students to wear their masks, keep 6 feet distance, and continuously hand sanitize and/or wash their hands. The students have been unbelievable in doing it this week and we know it will continue.
Thank you all for your patience, understanding, flexibility, and grace throughout this whole process. We know it is tough for everyone. We are figuring this out as we maneuver through it. We will succeed together!
Reminder that Monday is a Learn from Home day for everyone. Teachers will be meeting with the students in the morning with then students will have a full day of learning from home.
Again, this is new to all of us, so be patient with us as we all figure this out. These first few days and weeks will help to guide us as we see what works and what we need to continue to work on.
#WeHaveGotThisTogether!
Please read the rest of the Newsletter for important information, including Monday Specialist Clubs, Nurse Jenny News, Champions Programs, and my favorite -- pictures from this week that I was able to Tweet out.
Thanks; have a great weekend; stay safe, healthy and well,
Marty

From the Desk of Nurse Jenny
Dear Yelle Families:
Welcome back!
Please take a few minutes to note some very important information that will help me provide the best care and service to your child/children this school year.
Medications:
I am more than happy to assist students who need medications at school. Medications have to be transported into the school health office by a parent, guardian, or designated adult. This is a mandated district-wide policy that must be adhered to for the protection of all student. Medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, will require written consent and dosage instruction by parent and physician. I am permitted to administer Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen through the school physician if your child has returned the Health Form permit, which is given out at the beginning of the school year.
Control of Communicable Diseases and Illnesses:
Your child’s health is important to me! Hygiene and health are taught and emphasized throughout the school year by all staff. Due to the unfortunate circumstances we are all facing during the Covid-19 Pandemic, it is very important to follow the CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of disease.
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-public-health-guidance-and-directives
It is helpful to me if you contact the health office if your child contracts a communicable disease that requires absence from school. Communication is key to a healthy environment. It also gives me the opportunity to stress the importance of proper illness etiquette and techniques that will help keep students and staff healthier and safer during these difficult times.
Illness and Injury:
We make every effort to safeguard your child’s health at school. Please keep in mind that phone calls will not be made for every student visit during the school day. In the event of a serious accident or emergency, you will be contacted immediately. Otherwise, your child will either communicate with you verbally of the visit, a note may be sent home, or a phone call might be made at the end of school day. In the case of an emergency, when a parent or guardian cannot be reached, the student will be transported by ambulance to an appropriate medical facility and accompanied by a nurse, administrator, or designated faculty member. To ensure optimum care, it is important to update the school with new phone numbers, changes in address, changes in child’s health, new medications, or anything else that impacts their well-being while at school.
Due to the current Pandemic, only urgent visits to the health office will be encouraged during school hours this year. This does not include students requiring medications that are ordered routinely or as needed.
Cough drops will be dispensed on a “case-to-case” basis this year and minor complaints, such as paper cuts, will be treated in the classroom. In a case where clothing needs to be provided, I will no longer be handing out clothing to students, for most of my clothes are donated and I am not accepting donations at this time due to current circumstances. If you would like to pack extra clothing for your child in their backpack you are encouraged to do so. You also may send cough drops into school with your child when needed, but they are not to be shared with other students. The cough drops should be placed in a bag with their name labeled on the front. All students are encouraged to bring in their own water bottles as well. I would also suggest to have your student carry chap stick in their backpack, so Vaseline needed from the health office won’t not be necessary.
ALLERGIES:
All classrooms at Yelle Elementary are designated nut free and peanut free in order to keep the environment safe for those students who have food allergies. As a result, if snacks are enjoyed in any classroom, they must not contain any nuts or peanut. This policy does not pertain to the cafeteria as Yelle Elementary has designated desks for students who have food allergies.
Due to the recent circumstances of Covid-19, no parties or celebrations involving food are allowed in the classrooms this year.
I apologize for any inconvenience the above changes may cause you and your child, but my purpose for the changes is to help prevent possible unnecessary exposure to illness to an otherwise healthy child or adult.
You are encouraged to share any concerns or problems relevant to your child’s health. If you have any questions or would like to meet with me, please do not hesitate to call me at 1-508-285-0197.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
Please review the information below regarding immunization and physical exam requirements for school entry and compliance. Students who are not compliant will be excluded from school until requirements are met or arrangements are made with the school nurse.
SPECIAL NOTE: By law, medical records must show the day as well as month and year of each and any immunization dose administered and must have the signature or stamp of the physician/health facility that administered them.
PHYSICAL EXAM REQUIREMENTS
We encourage the performance of the physical examination by the student's own physician. A copy of this exam, and updated immunizations, should be provided to the school nurse.
Physical examinations are required:
Within one year prior to entrance to school or within 30 days after school entrance.
At intervals of either three or four years thereafter, such as during kindergarten, 4th grade, 7th grade, and 10th grade.
A student transferred from another school system shall be examined as an entering student.
Students under 16 and over 14 years of age requesting employment certificates.
Prior to a student’s participation in competitive athletics, on an annual basis
