Donor's Choose
Frequently asked Questions at Fridley Public Schools
What is Donor's Choose?
DonorsChoose.org is a fundraising website that allows teachers to create a page stating a classroom need. It can be a need for funding for a field trip, school supplies, team sports, books or classroom devices like chromebooks.
Many Fridley teachers have created DonorsChoose.org pages and have had great success with obtaining chromebooks for their students.
While our tech team is highly in favor of teachers using DonorsChoose.org, we believe it is imperative to work together on your requests before you post your page. This way, we can recommend devices that we can support within our infrastructure.
How do I know if writing a grant is necessary? In other words, what if the district has the tech equipment already?
Step 1: Fill out a Request To Pilot a Tech Product (RTP).
Step 2: Consult with your Principal.
Step 3: Meet with Yvonne Anderson.
Step 4: The Technology Department will determine if there is any available technology on hand that can be used for the RTP.
Step 5: If the RTP product can't be funded through the district, then you should consult with your principal and Yvonne Anderson before writing your Donor's Choose Page. We can help with quotes and make sure we can support your product and goals.
If I earn tech equipment, do I need to budget for licensing?
All of the Chromebooks in the district need to be enrolled using a ChromeOS License that is connected to Fridley Google Apps. The cost for this software is approximately $30 per Chromebook so the licensing should be budgeted for separately when applying for a Donor's Choose Grant.
