What's going on in class?
Math
We are through our first 6 weeks of math. The students have completed their second quiz and are starting to settle into middle school math. Looking forward to another successful week ahead.
Language Arts
Students began learning the skills of making inferences and writing direct quotes to use as evidence this week. We will be using these skills on our upcoming essay and throughout the year. Students will be answering the essential question "What makes a person successful?" in their essay. They will determine what character trait they believe is most necessary for success and reasons why. Students will then reference the Steve Job's Stanford Speech to create direct quotes (with citations) to use as evidence in support of their reasoning.
I would also like to let parents know that students will soon have a long term substitute teacher in Language Arts while I go on maternity leave. There is not a set date for this to begin but we will communicate with you and have more details at a later time.
Science
Team 2 Scientists have finished Standard MS ESS 2-6 this week, and are moving on to MS ESS2-5. The next essential question that they are focusing on is, “How do the interactions of air masses cause changes in weather conditions?” We will be learning about air masses. Our next quiz in science should be onThursday 9/26/19.
Social Studies
This week in social studies we continued to learn about Mesopotamia. On Tuesday we took a break from Mesopotamia to learn about the Constitution of the United States because September 17 was Constitution Day. On Friday we took a quiz over Mesopotamia. Next week will wrap Mesopotamia up and begin Ancient Egypt.
