Welcome to the Woodland Park School District e-Newsletter which is sent out weekly when school is in session. It serves as a glimpse of some of the wonderful things going on in our schools, as well as a point of reference for upcoming events.

Spreading Holiday Cheer
Eighth grade students and teachers from Memorial Middle School took part in the second annual Community Holiday Card Writing activity. The event was held outside the Alfred Baumann Library. The students assisted in the creation of holiday greeting cards for Woodland Park senior citizens, veterans, and homebound residents. While creating the cards, students enjoyed hot chocolate and a snack.

Sounds of the Season
Memorial Middle School's choir, sixth grade band, and seventh and eighth grade band performed holiday selections at an evening outdoor performance on Tuesday night under the direction of Music Teacher, Mr. Schaefer.

Helpful How-To's
Mrs. D’Amico and Mrs. Davidson’s first grade class at Charles Olbon School has been working hard during writer’s workshop. They have been creating “How-To” stories. The students used a checklist to make sure the stories were ready to be shared. Each story teaches the reader something new. Stop by the class bulletin board where these pieces are displayed. Read and learn something new!

Mrs. Bouroult's fourth graders at Beatrice Gilmore School explored the relationship between speed and energy by creating paper roller coasters.

Students in Ms. Face's Pre-K 3 class at School 1 recently enjoyed doing sticky table art.

Sight Word Fun
Students in Ms. DiGiacomo's kindergarten class at Charles Olbon School made candy canes using sight words. It was fun to see the excitement for sight words in a new way.

Signs All Around
Mrs. Munro's PreK-4 class at Charles Olbon School began the next unit of study: signs. The students had the opportunity to look around the school and discover different types of signs. The students will be exploring a variety of signs in the weeks ahead.

Classroom Gingerbread House
Students in Mrs. Guariglia's PreK-3 class at School 1 read the story "Gingerbread Baby" and decorated a gingerbread house for the classroom.

End of Book Study
Students in Ms. Morozowski's PreK class at Charles Olbon School celebrated the end of the Gingerbread book study by creating mini-Gingerbread houses to catch the Gingerbread baby!

Celebrating The Grinch
Students at Beatrice Gilmore School enjoyed the "Humbug Grinch" holiday spirit day on Tuesday.

Plush Pal Time
Ms. Healey and Ms. Calabrese’s second graders at Charles Olbon School enjoyed reading to a “plush pal” during reading workshop. The students did a wonderful job practicing reading fluency skills and reading strategies with special reading partners.

In Loving Memory
Charles Olbon School staff held the annual toy drive in honor of a former and beloved student, Christopher DiMartino. Christopher passed away on Jan. 14, 2014 at age 8 after a courageous battle with cancer. Teachers and staff members donated many toys and books for the Children of Tomorrow Pediatric Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center.

BGHSA Spirit Wear Sale
The Beatrice Gilmore School Home & School Association is holding a spirit wear sale. It is offering t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts, sweatpants and sweatshirts. Orders will be fulfilled and dropped off at the school in the order in which they are placed. At this time it should take about two weeks after your order is placed to receive your items.
