Curriculum Update K-5
Science
FOSS has set out to achieve three important goals: scientific literacy, instructional efficiency, and systemic reform.
Research and best practice have led FOSS to place more emphasis on the student science notebook. Keeping a notebook helps students organize their observations and data, process their data, and maintain a record of their learning for future reference. The process of writing about their science experiences and communicating their thinking is a powerful learning device for students.

Social Studies
QCSD K-5 teachers are in year 1 of implementing a new Social Studies curriculum. Grade K, is implementing a literature based curriculum aligned to Social Studies and ELA standards. Grades 1-5 teachers are implementing a program called, TCI Social Studies Alive.
TCI’s curriculum has been specially curated to meet state standards, create engagements in lessons and help students better understand the content through hands-on and experiential exercises.
Math
QCSD K-5 teachers are in year 2 of implementing Eureka Math: A Story of Units. The Quakertown Community School District Elementary Math teachers believe in nurturing an appreciation and enjoyment of mathematics, while developing a deep number sense. Our goals include teaching our students to become creative problem solvers who persevere, clearly communicate their thinking, and manipulate patterns and numbers with accuracy as well as fluency. Students are actively engaged as they make real world connections and realize math is embedded in their daily lives. Click here to learn more about Math in QCSD.
