PUSD Professional Learning Update

Friday, November 2, was a Professional Learning Day for all PUSD staff that focused on campus safety and how to respond in the event of an active shooter. IVES and GJSHS staff wanted our families and the community to be informed about the training we received and the actions we are taking to increase safety on our campuses. We trained in conjunction with local law enforcement, as well as Care Flight/REMSA out of Reno. We received training on weapons familiarization and the critical information that needs to be communicated to law enforcement in the event of a campus emergency. We also practiced tactical casualty care and knowledge on how to assess and immediately manage wound care. In the afternoon, we went through two simulations with law enforcement, repeating them multiple times so that we could get different perspectives. It is training that we hope to never use, but just as we train our students through practice drills for many types of emergencies, we know that through repeated practice we will react better in the event of a true emergency. We will continue to use this knowledge and training as we update our site safety plans.

How can you help us increase safety on campus? First, please remember to always sign in at the office and receive a visitor badge to wear each time you visit campus. If you don't have a visitor's badge visible, school staff will redirect you to the office to sign in so that we always have an account for who is on campus. We appreciate your cooperation and assistance.

What can you do at home to help your child as we also practice at school? First, make sure your child knows your current home address and phone number. Discuss multiple safe meeting spots and practice with your child how to get there safely. In the event of an emergency, please refrain from calling or texting your child's cell phone. While this is a difficult request, as we learned from law enforcement, if we are in a lockdown situation, a cell phone ringing or pinging from a text message is going to make concealment difficult. Know that in the event of an emergency, we will contact families as soon as it is safe to do so.

We will be doing another ALICE (active shooter) drill in the spring where we will practice evacuating off-site. Families will always be notified in advance of our ALICE drills.

SPORTS UPDATES

ALUMNI FOOTBALL GAME

The Alumni football game held Saturday evening was a great night of fun for our GHS alumni and their families. The black team was coached by Dennie Wright (Class of 1969) and Sue Webber. The white team was coached by Josh Neff (Class of 2009) and Dave Keller. There were 31 GHS alumni joined by 14 other players for a friendly, competitive game of football. We also had alumni cheerleaders and mascots who were there to cheer on both teams. Thank you to our GHS Boosters' Club for sponsoring this event!

IVES needs BOX TOPS!

Send your Box Tops in with students or drop them by the IVES office. The money we receive from the Box Tops goes right back into the classrooms! Thank you for your assistance!

Staff Feature

Our staff feature this week is Mrs. Emily Foy. Mrs. Foy teaches a 3/4 combination class this year at IVES. We were so fortunate last year when Mrs. Foy joined us as our third-grade teacher after many years teaching in Lassen County. Mrs. Foy brings a wonderful sense of compassion to her classroom and students (and staff!) enjoy her sense of humor. She builds strong relationships with her students. She delivers dynamic lessons and is able to get her students to believe in themselves because she believes in them! Mrs. Foy enjoys getting her students outside to learn more about the wonderful area in which they live.

A Note from Our District Nurse

Fall is the most common time for Head Lice

A note from our school nurse--Please be aware of our District Policy and guidelines if you notice your child has Head Lice.

About Us

Indian Valley Elementary School and Greenville Junior/Senior High School are in beautiful western Plumas County. We serve the students of Indian Valley, which includes the communities of Greenville, Crescent Mills, Taylorsville, and Canyon Dam. We are essentially a K-12 school since we are located on one large campus where we share several facilities.
