Have you ever wondered what the most popular sport in the United States is? Do you love playing sports? Growing up, many children begin to play sports very young whether it was soccer or T-ball or even flag football throughout their childhood. Many even played all 3 in different seasons.

Whichever sport you play or even watch, each person has a favorite team or sport. They have learned all the players on the team and learned the ins and outs of how to play the sport. They find role models in each and every one of the players. But, have you ever wondered when watching or playing a sport, what's the most popular sport in the United States?

Many might have guessed it but American Football is the most popular sport in America. In 1903, the Ohio League was the first professional football league and changed to the National Football League (NFL) about 20 years later. As of 2012, American football was the most watched sports on television in the US. America’s “national pastime,” also known as baseball, follows with a close second.

But how does the most popular sport in the US compare to the most popular sport in the world? The most popular sport in the world is Soccer, which is popularly known as Football in many countries. This sport is popular in almost every country in the world and is played by both men and women. Many people believe the huge fan base of soccer is due the fact that it requires very few equipment and the effort to learn the basics of the sport are simple. In addition to being the most popular sport in the world, it is also the highest paying team sport at the professional level. Following a close second is Basketball.

Even though very few players make it to the professional leagues, many young children strive to continue to play their favorite sports as long as they can to strive in the sport.

Athletes continue through college to become student athletes. If you love to play sports, it doesn’t matter if you play the most popular sport or not, all the matters that you do what you love. There is nothing like the feeling you get when your team reaches their final goal of a championship.
