Student Arrival: Please make every effort to ensure your child is dropped off at school on time each morning. Our arrival period begins at 8:45 AM and concludes at 9:15 AM. Students arriving after 9:15 AM are considered tardy and must be signed in at the front office by a parent/guardian.
Quarantined Students vs. Regular Absences: As a friendly reminder, students are required to quarantine if they test positive for COVID-19 or if they are directly exposed to a COVID-positive individual in or outside of their family household. When exposures happen, we ask that you notify the school at 919-460-3491 and we will assist your family with determining how long your child must quarantine. When quarantined, impacted students will be excused from school and will have access to schoolwork via Google Classroom.
Conversely, students who are not required to quarantine, but whose families are keeping them home for a self-imposed "quarantine" period will be marked as unexcused absences until a doctor's note can be provided. Additionally, students who are not required to quarantine by WCPSS or DHHS are not entitled to receive access to instructional materials during routine absences.
NES Instruction for Quarantined Students: In accordance with WCPSS School Board Policy, all students who enter into a mandated quarantine will be provided access to meaningful coursework. To maintain a high degree of consistency across our school, our teams have developed an overview of the types and amount of work students will have access to while quarantined. It's important to note that all instruction for quarantined students will be delivered asynchronously. To review the information in detail, please use the link below.
Immunizations/Health Assessments: This is a friendly reminder that immunization records and health assessments are required for ALL kindergarten students AND students who are new to North Carolina, regardless of whether they are participating in Virtual Academy or in-person instruction. By NC State Law, parents/guardians have the first 30 days of the school year to provide documentation of immunizations and health assessments to the school. After that point, the child may be excluded (suspended) from school. The due date to submit immunization records and health assessments is September 20th. Records can be dropped off at the school during normal business hours or emailed to our data manager, Crystal Hartzell, at email@example.com.
We are excited to relaunch the Positivity Project (P2) curriculum on September 20th. For more information about P2, please read the information letter below.
Volunteers Wanted for the School Garden!
We are looking for volunteers to help tend the school garden. If interested, please contact Mrs. Stingley or email firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information on the Northwoods School Garden, please visit https://www.northwoodspta.com/garden/.
Student T-shirt Sponsorships:
Each year, our PTA sells business sponsorships to help fund t-shirts for ALL of our students and staff at Northwoods. The shirts have become a wonderful tradition at Northwoods, helping to foster a sense of community and school spirit. With so many of our events and traditions still on hold, we felt that the shirts would be especially important again as some of us still work and learn from home.
We have halved our Gold and Platinum sponsorship amounts again this year and kept the popular $50 donation option! Costs usually run around $5000 to print shirts for all students and staff, so EVERY donation helps!
If you or someone you know would like to be a business sponsor, head over to our MemberHub store. The deadline for business sponsorships is October 1st, 2021.
