Crosswalk Safety
Thank you to everyone who has made adjustments to your drop off and pick up routines to make sure you are using our dedicated crosswalks when arriving and exiting Pleasant Valley Primary. We want to make sure students safety is first and foremost which is why we have dedicated staff to ensure individual safety.
Also, thank you for not parking outside of the parking lot to drop off/pick up students. We appreciate those of you who are no longer parking along 50th Ave and walking students onto campus which is a safety concern due buses entering the parking lot. Please continue to park inside the parking lot and use the crosswalks or utilize car drop off/pick up. As of November 13th we are no longer allowing families to enter campus on foot using the main entrance.
PBIS Committee - Parent Committee Member Wanted
PBIS is the system around defining, teaching, and implementing proactive approaches to encourage positive student behavior within the school setting. This helps build the culture and climate that we at PVP strive to achieve in order to best support all of our students sociallly, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically on a daily basis.
Please access the Parent Committee Application to learn more about what this role will entail as well as additional information about what PBIS is. You can click on the link in the line above or click on the image above to access the application.

Reading (LAP) and Math (Title) Support - Parent Information
We have two events coming up in the next few weeks specific to our Reading (LAP) and Math (Title) Intervention programs and the students that these programs serve. Because we are a "Title" school, these information nights are open to all families of PVP, but we do want to strongly encourage any families of students who are receiving these services to attend.
What is Reading (LAP)
LAP is a state funded program that provides additional instructional services and supports within the school. These supports and services help students in meeting the challenging state and academic standards and closing the opportunity gap. Here at PVP, we utilize this state funding program to support students specifically in math. Students who are identified to participate in this program work with staff in small instructional groups each day during reading intervention time. Students do not lose out on reading instruction in their classroom as this is a supplemental support
What is Math (TITLE)
Title 1 is a federal program that provides additional instructional services and supports within the school. These supports and services help students in meeting the challenging state academic standards and closing the opportunity gap. Here at PVP, we utilize this Federal Title 1 program to support students specifically in math. Students who are identified to participate in this program work with staff within a small instructional group each day during math intervention time. Students do not lose out on math instruction in their classroom as this is a supplemental support.
Informational Night (all families can attend):

Location: Pleasant Valley Primary Library
Reading (LAP) & Math (Intervention) Shadow Day (only for familes of students who receive these services):
Date: December 13th
If your child receives LAP or Title services, a letter invitation will be sent home to you. This letter will include the specific time and a location for you to shadow your child during their intervention time.
Health and Attendance Information
Pleasant Valley Primary School's Attendance Goal:
100% of our students will attend school 90% of the time.
What Does This Goal Actually Mean?
Chronic absenteeism is when a student is absent from school 10% of the school year or more. Since we have 180 days of school, this equates to 18 school days throughout the school year. This means if a student is absent 2 days every month, they will reach that chronic absenteeism number of 18 school days.
Health and Attendance Pamphlets
Attendance at school is a top priority for us at Pleasant Valley Primary as it is a critical component to student success both academically, as well as socially and emotionally. However, we do know that illnesses happen and that there are times where it is in the students best interest to stay home and regain their health prior to returning to school.
Social Emotional Development
Our classrooms will continue their 2nd step Social Emotional lessons throughout the month of November.
Monthly Focus: Emotion Management
This month, our schoolwide theme is emotion management. In our morning announcements we'll be reminding students to notice their own feelings by paying attention to clues in their bodies, to stop and name their feelings, and how to use the Calming-Down Steps:
- Stop - Use your signal
- Name your feeling
- Calm down: Breathe, count, use positive self-talk
These skills will help students calm down strong emotions when faced with learning and social challenges, which helps them succeed academically and get along well with others.
Weekly Focus and the Morning Announcement Your Child Will Hear Each Morning During That Week
Week 1 (November 26 - November 30): Feelings in My Body
Everyone feels a lot of different feelings. We feel these feelings in our bodies. Some feelings are comfortable, and others are uncomfortable, but all of them are okay! This week, notice what feelings you have. Pay attention to clues in your body and in the situation to help you understand how you feel. Which feelings are comfortable, and which ones are uncomfortable? See if you can name your feelings.

Week 2 (December 3 - December 7): Stop and name Feelings
It's okay to have strong feelings. But when you have strong feelings, it can be hard to think about what to do. You can get back in control by calming down. The first step is to use a stop signal to catch your own attention and to tell yourself to stop. You might say "Chill out!" or "Relax!" Next use your feeling detective skills to name your feeling. When you recognize your feelings, the thinking part of your brain can start to manage them. Take a moment to decide what stop signal you will use this week.

Woooo Hoooo ...Classrooms Filled Their Beaver Bravo Jar!!!
Every time a student is recognized for displaying positive behaviors that meet one of our school wide expectations, they receive a Beaver Bravo. They then put this Bravo into their classroom jar and with every individual positive behavior that is recognized, classroom jars soon fill up. Once full, the class dumps their jar into our school wide jar located in the main office which results in a spirit day celebration as soon as our school jar is full. What happens as a result of all of these collective positive behaviors? They ALL help shape Pleasant Valley Primary into the amazing community that we all have the privilege of being part of every single day!
