A Message From The Superintendent
Dear School Community,
We hear the words grit and resilience a great deal in education today. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines grit as mental toughness and courage. Resilience is defined as an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change. At no time in recent history has there been a greater need for grit and resilience in our teachers, students, parents, and community. In his book, The Pandemic Population, Tim Elmore discusses various strategies for leading our youth through the current pandemic:
Make a habit of talking about the silver lining
Break down hardships into digestible bites for mental processing
Remind them of past personal successes
Tell stories of those who turned disadvantages into advantages
Practice affirming self-talk
Express both high belief and high expectations
Mr. Elmore believes with parents leading in the home and educators leading at school, our youth will make it through the pandemic as stronger individuals with grit and resilience for having overcome very adversarial circumstances. Working together we can ensure our students grow and succeed as they head into a brighter future!
Sincerely,
Penny

Spring Hill ISD Celebrates National School Counseling Week
February 7-11 is National School Counseling Week. National School Counseling Week is celebrated to recognize the unique contribution school counselors have within schools and how students are different as a result of the efforts.
"Our counselors help students examine their strengths, interests and talents, and work in partnership with parents and teachers to provide the opportunity for students to reach their potential," said Superintendent Penny Fleet.
Counselors serving Spring Hill ISD are Amy Doron, Andrea Jones, Mandy Jameson, Allison Williamson, and Paige Childers.
Thank you for the work you do and the tremendous impact you have in helping Spring Hill students achieve success!
Students Learn Creative Writing Skills At Workshops
Spring Hill students recently attended fun, interactive writing workshops presented by Chris Espinosa, a professional teaching artist.
To engage students and supplement classroom instruction, Spring Hill ISD partnered with the Young Audiences Arts For Learning program to provide the experience for kindergarten through fourth grade students. Each session was designed for the grade level in attendance and covered topics such as Elaboration, Powerful Word Choices, Storytelling, and Introductions and Conclusions.
"At Spring Hill, we are very focused on literacy, reading and writing," said Taylor Clark, District Coordinator of Curriculum and Special Programs. "The goal in organizing these workshops was to offer writing lessons to our students from a different perspective and in a fun way."
February is Career and Technical Education Month
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country. CTE covers many different fields and encompasses many different types of education, from classroom learning to certification programs to work-based learning opportunities.
Spring Hill High School offers a variety of CTE Programs of Study to provide students the opportunity to gain the academic, technical, and employability skills necessary for true career readiness.
Parking and Driveway Construction Underway at Spring Hill Primary
Construction began last month on a parking and driveway project at Spring Hill Primary. The project will create additional parking for Primary parents during events, increase driveway space to remove cars from Spring Hill Road during afternoon pickup, and provide more parking for the Baseball / Softball Complex.
The plan was recommended by the Facilities Committee and approved by the Spring Hill ISD School Board.
"Spring Hill ISD utilizes a Facilities Committee in short range and long range planning,” said Superintendent Penny Fleet. “The committee put a great deal of thought and consideration into this project."
Facilities Committee members include School Board Trustees Dave Duncan, Ben Shelton, and Kyle Stephens, as well as Superintendent Penny Fleet, Chief Financial Officer Martin Cobb, Assistant Superintendent of Career and College Readiness Adrian Knight, Director of Maintenance Toby Pleasant, and Director of Technology Steve Hardy.
The anticipated completion date is late April.

Spring Hill PTA hosted a Valentine Paint Party for Primary and Intermediate students. More than 100 people participated in this fun event. Thank you PTA!
100 Days of Learning
Spring Hill Primary recently celebrated the 100th day of school. Students celebrated by dressing up like they were 100 years old, and wearing 100th Day of School themed t-shirts.
