Peace, Passion, Purpose
“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.”
—Coretta Scott King
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” —Nelson Mandela
Notes from Michelle
Happy Friday! We hope that everyone is having a pleasant week.
The quote above by Nelson Mandela, is so impactful. While it is very clear that his quote and his experiences were in no way connected to the conflict we are witnessing as society experiences a pandemic- I can see a very basic connection. We all know that we wear the mask to protect others. We take precautions on what we do and choices we make not just to protect ourselves, but to protect those who are more vulnerable. Even in the Montessori classroom we discuss the connection between freedom and responsibility. Doing things and making choices for the greater good and for others and their well being is how we respect and enhance the life of others. If all we do is think of how something impacts or restricts us, we forget that we are all connected and our freedom is entwined with everyone else's.
During a recent board meeting, we considered the matter of covid protocols. We are very committed to ensuring that the fewest students are impacted by any positive cases of covid which might occur within our community. We feel that the protocols we have been using have been successful in preventing the spread of covid on campus. Therefore, we will continue with a mask mandate on campus for all times other than when eating or drinking. The CDC has recommended a change to a 5 day quarantine for vaccinated people who test positive for covid and who have tested negative on the 5th day. Eagle Peak has decided to stay at a 10 day quarantine for any student who has tested positive for covid. These are currently the only differences between any updated guidance and what Eagle Peak is planning to continue with on campus. The guidance in regards to quarantining both full quarantine and modified quarantine has not changed for either vaccinated or unvaccinated students. As mentioned in previous Friday Folders, the definition of “fully vaccinated” is a person who has had both doses of a vaccine and it has been 14 days since their second dose. All of the emails that we provide to families at the time of positive cases, have been created from templates sent to us through the county. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.
I’m sure that many of you have read about other states where there are attempts to ban books from school shelves. As you know, that would go against everything the Eagle Peak stands for in regards to providing opportunities to learn and promoting honest and sometimes difficult conversations. In that spirit, if you would like to join other parents in a “Read Banned Books” club, please contact Rachel Hallquist, the co-chair of our Parent Teacher Leadership Group. Please contact her at rachelhallquist@mac.com if you might be interested in joining! I hear the first book might be, Maus.
Stay well,
Michelle

So many Reminders:
Friendly reminder - The only animals allowed on the EPMS campus are actual Service Animals.
Please see the article from the EPMS Board of Directors from September 2019 - The Eagle Peak Montessori Board of Directors voted on a board policy that impacts ability of families to bring pets of any kind, with them on campus. Unless the animal is a designated service animal, we can no longer allow the animal on campus. The “campus” includes the sidewalk between the fence and the office, the front sidewalk extending from the garbage dumpster all the way the entrance of the Castle Rock Fields. We do ask that if you have your pet with you, that you use the drop off/pick up drive through line for your children.
If your child has been fully vaccinated, please provide a copy of the completed vaccination card to the office. The information will kept confidential.
When your child is SICK or TARDY, please remember to call (925-946-0994) or email (Admin@eaglepeakmontessori.org) the office. Thank you.
Covid Testing- Please note that we must receive the results of a Covid- 19 PCR test. We cannot accept the results of a rapid test. Thank you for your help with this.

Don't forget about Box Top$ for Education!
Remember to gather your Box Tops for Education.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app identifies eligible products and automatically adds Box Tops to Eagle Peak's earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. Learn more about how Box Tops works at BTFE.com.
