Read-a-thon Fundraiser! Nov. 2 - Dec. 1
NAE Fall in Love with a Good Book Read-A-Thon:
With some of our favorite school traditions like School Carnival and Jog-A-Thon on hold till the spring, NAE PTP is excited to share our Fall In Love with a Good Book Read-A-Thon for the month of November. For 4 weeks, students will be asked to read a little bit everyday with a goal for total minutes read during the month. We encourage students to share this reading challenge with their family and friends to help us fundraise for our school and community.
Dear North Albany Families,
North Albany Elementary PTP is excited to bring a fun, new school event to students and their families! The “Fall in Love with a Good Book Read-A-Thon” will run through the month of November and challenge students to read a little bit every day while also raising money to support our school and our community.
We invite our North Albany families to help their children track their daily reading using the Read for My School’s digital platform. We would also love if you would share your child’s progress toward their monthly reading goal and our fundraising drive with friends and family. Students will have opportunities to earn rewards along the way as well as prizes for top readers and top reading classrooms.
Here are some of our reading and fundraising goals for this fundraiser:
- A school reading goal to reach 50,000 minutes read!
- A school fundraising goal of $3,000 to help add books to NAE’s library and support future classroom needs as well as lend a hand with relief efforts for a local elementary school that is in need after the recent wildfires.

What to do during virtual school if your child becomes ill?
- The community, that Greater Albany Public Schools is part of, has recently seen an increase in Covid cases and we are trying to help lower those numbers so that we can get our kids back into the building as soon as possible.
- GAPS is a large part of this community and can have an influence to help with this increase.
- When your child is sick, make sure you let their teacher know or contact the school office at 541-967-4588 or email to patty.nordyke@albany.k12.or.us
- Once this information comes into the office you will be contacted to ask you a list of questions about your child's illness, such as when it started, what the symptoms are, have you contacted your doctor, will your child be tested for Covid/Influenza, etc.
- These answers go nowhere other than to our district nurse to keep an eye on, as a community, to make sure there are no breakouts that have not been reported. Yes, there have been some breakouts in GAPS already.
We are doing everything we can to get these numbers down so our kids and staff can come back to the buildings for in person learning! We realize this sometimes feels invasive, but that is not the intent. Thank you very much for your help.
ANYTIME YOUR CHILD WILL MISS SCHOOL (INCLUDING HAVING TECHNICAL ISSUES), PLEASE LET THEIR TEACHER AND/OR THE OFFICE KNOW. WE HAVE TO HAVE A REASON, AS WELL, TO CODE IT CORRECTLY IN ATTENDANCE. OFFICE IS 541-967-4588 OR PATTY.NORDYKE@ALBANY.K12.OR.US

Virtual Mileage Club
North Albany Elementary School Mileage Club is about to begin! This is a virtual program where students kindergarten through fifth grade are given the opportunity run/walk laps around his or her neighborhood. The club is for those who want to get the wiggles out, improve their fitness, or who just love to run, jog or walk. Students may set goals and track their progress in order to earn rewards! I know I am looking forward to running outside again.
Logistics:
Parents, you will need to download the Mileage Calendar (2nd page below). Using that calendar, please keep track of how many miles your child has run. You may email me a picture of the calendar when your child has reached the landmarks designated. I will then put your child’s first name & last initial on our Mileage Club Track. The reward earned will be placed in an envelope and given to your child’s teacher. You may pick this up during your child’s supplies pick-up at school. Times will be determined by your child’s teacher. You will find the Mileage Club Track linked to your child’s Clever page.
I look forward to track your running progress!
(Challenge….beat Ms. Stanfield’s progress. I run 2 miles every other day. Can you keep up???? )
Teacher Appreciation
Throughout the school year, our teachers work so hard teaching and supporting our students. As a way of saying thank you for all they do, the PTP organizes a sign-up list each year for volunteers to pick a month where they can organize a small gift for the school staff. This can be done alone or with a few parents together and doesn't need to be anything fancy to be warmly received. Even the smallest of gestures is enjoyed and appreciated by our staff.
Some examples of ideas from prior years include: cute tic-tac boxes decorated like snowmen with little thank you notes, small potted flowers, a selection of popcorn or cookies, a group arranged themed lunch, just to name a few.
