What's New in Room 182
Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * December 18, 2015
What a truly amazing week!!
Your students stayed focused and worked hard to show what they've learned in EVERY subject! I know they are so proud of their prefix and multiplication test scores, and deservingly even more so of their unbelievable space iMovies. (You can view these by having your child log into their Schoology account and visiting my course!)
We wrapped everything up with a fantastic winter celebration put together by many of our own parent volunteers. It was so much fun to mingle with other 3rd grade classes, too!
I wish all of you the most restful and wonderful break! I am so thankful for the gift of your children that you share with me each and every day and look forward to seeing you all next year!
P.S.- As we wrapped up the week and 2015, during the last 10 minutes of our day today, the class rushed to the window when someone called out that there was a First Quarter moon in the sky! Speechless over how awesome your kids are day in and day out...
Wanted: Brave New Mystery Readers SOON!!
More information and a sign-up page can be found here. I think previous mystery readers can attest that the experience will be worth your time!!
Focus on the Curriculum
- Weekly Prefix: Dis- (not, none)
Please make sure your student is completing their Matching Activity in their Learning Log on Monday night, so that they have plenty of time to learn their new words.
Also, they must complete five Spelling City activities at home (via web or free app) during the week to practice.
- Text structures
We will review the way that texts can be organized, like cause and effect, description, problem and solution, compare and contrast, chronologically (sequence), and steps in a process. Look for examples of these in your nightly reading!
- Chapter 3: Measuring and Graphing
This week, students will be introduced to all kids of measurement, then focusing specifically on telling time and reading a thermometer. Measurement is an every day skill for us all... Please look out for the "Home Connection" in your e-mail with ideas for incorporating our lessons into your daily conversations at home!
And, we may be moving onto a new chapter, but multiplication and division are very much still important to our 3rd graders' learning! Please continue to reinforce those skills however you can at home. IXL, MobyMax, or www.multiplication.com are all phenomenal tools to help your student excel!
Homework will be "Weekly Review #11", sent home Monday and due Friday.
