Dells Dairy Farm Families
Several of the D5JH members participated in the Dells Dairy Farm Families dairy promo event at Zinke's Market in Wis. Dells during the WoZhaWa festival. We had lots of visitors to our Holstein cow and calf display and answered some great questions. Tourists are always surprised that there are dairy farms in the Dells! After handing out milk and cheese, we loaded up on the float and joined the big parade. The Davis family's cow that walked in the parade was a big hit!

Halloween Party
Sometimes kids just wanna have fun! District 5 Junior Holsteins went on a fun and scary adventure for Halloween. A group of 30 kids and adults went on a haunted hay ride at Red Ridge Ranch in Mauston. Highlights of the evening were Levi Kindschi trying to scare the people that were trying to scare us, the glowing horse galloping through the dark pasture, and playing tag in the giant hay bale maze. It was an evening filled with laughing, screaming, and good friends!

Fall Picnic
Last September, District 5 Junior Holstein group went to Westfield, Wisconsin for our annual fall picnic. We went to a park to eat lunch and play a game of football. At the park had our meeting. After the park, we piled up in our vehicles to go and tour the Lyon's farm. During the tour we took a look at their cattle, calf housing, and milking facility. After touring the Lyon's farm, we went in their barn to dairy judge two classes of Holstein cows. After dairy judging, we went and toured Hockerman's calf care facility. After touring, we went and handed out awards for dairy judging. We had a very fun time.

District 5 Dairy Day
Our biggest District 5 Junior Holsteins event of the year is our annual Dairy Day. This year the Jamie and Karen Judd family of Reedsburg was our host farm. Dairy Day is for all current and prospective D5JH members. This year we had over 40 kids attend. The day is divided into educational sessions geared toward all age brackets and "Holstein " experience levels. The beginners worked on fitting/showing and basic AI. The intermediate and advanced groups had sessions on matings/pedigrees and embryo transfer. A dairy judging workshop was also included. The District 5 Junior Holsteins would like to say a big thank you to all the dedicated dairy industry volunteers that came and shared their passion and expertise with us. Thanks also to our Southwest district JAs, Andrea Pagenkopf and John Klossner who spent the day with us and did a great job with the beginners. We are looking forward to next year's Dairy Day and hope we can encourage more kids to join us.
