Welcome to 1st Grade
Ms. Smart and Mrs. Tyler's Class
All You Need To Know
Welcome!
Welcome to 1st Grade! We are so thrilled to have your child in our class! Meeting you all at meet the teacher was fabulous! Mrs. Tyler and I know that this is going to be a great year! It is our goal that we make learning as fun as possible for your child! We believe that all students can learn. In a classroom, there will always be a variety of learning styles and levels because every child is unique. We try our best to teach each student at their level and build on what they already know; therefore books and homework may be different for each student. Each student learns at their own pace, and we will inform you of their progress. I do ask that you listen to your child read every night. This is a small task that will help your child’s development.
Communication
Please remember open communication extremely important in order to ensure I am meeting all the needs of your child. If you have any questions or comments, never hesitate to email or give me a call. I will check my email throughout the day and reply as soon as possible. Please feel free to call me before or after school. We are all a team this year in ensuring your child has the best school year ever!
Lunch and Snack
We have lunch every day from 11:10-11:35.The price of lunch is $2.35. You are welcome to eat lunch with your child but you must check in through the office first. Students will be able to eat a snack in the afternoon from 1:40-1:45. We encourage you to send a healthy snack with your child every day. We will try to keep extra snacks incase a child is without one. If you are able to send in extra snacks for students unable to bring theirs, it would be greatly appreciated! We are a peanut free school! Please keep this in mind while packing lunch and snacks!
Birthday Treats
Birthday's are worth celebrating! Feel free to send a birthday treat with your child on their birthday. Their treat will be passed out after they have finished eating their lunch in the cafeteria. We will celebrate with a birthday song during our morning meeting.
Afternoon Dismissal
It is very important to us that we know how your child is getting home each day. If there is a change in their afternoon transportation please send a note with them to school. If it changes throughout the school day please call the front office. They will make sure we know the correct way your child is getting home. If you change their afternoon transportation during the school day please do not rely on email to communicate that with me. If we have not gotten a note or a phone call from you, he or she will go home their usual way.
PE Days
Please make sure your child wears sneakers on Thursdays so they can stay safe in the gym.
Library Days
Students may check out two books each. Please make sure that your child has their library books ready to return on Media days.
Imagine Learning Reading Program
FES is lucky enough to have an awesome online reading program. Your child will spend 60 minutes a week with their 1:1 iPad to complete a session. Imagine Learning is proven to improve student reading by pinpointing their strengths and supporting their weaknesses. I frequently check their growth and their data on Imagine Learning. It helps me to be able to better support your child's every need, and really understanding where they are struggling! Since Imagine Learning is an online program your child is able to access it from home! I am attaching your child's user name and password to their homework folder. Please take advantage of this amazing program!
