Principal's Message

"The start of something new brings the hope of something great." - author unknown

Welcome Back!

It has been so great to see everyone getting back to learning at Rideau! Our staggered entry has allowed us to practice our new routines and safety protocols in small groups, and we are ready to have our full cohort back next week. Thanks to all our families for all the work you have done preparing our children at home - they have been great!

September is always a busy time, and a lot of information is coming home. We try to make our communications with families as effective as possible. All email communication will be done through School Messenger this year, so please ensure that we have your correct email address on file at school. Our website: also has our newsletters, a school calendar, and other useful information. Twitter is another way to keep up with what's happening at Rideau. Follow us @RideauPS_LDSB . You don't even need a Twitter account to follow us! Just Google @RideauPS_LDSB and you can see our Twitter feed. You can always get in touch with us through email at or by calling the school at 613-546-5901. Thank you for your continued support of the work we do every day!

G. Seiveright, Principal

Screen your child every day!

Dress for fall!

This fall, we are taking learning outdoors as much as possible, to increase distancing and to give students and staff a mask break. Please make sure that students are dressed for the weather, including a jacket as necessary. Light rain will probably not keep us indoors to the extent it has in the past, so raincoats and boots should be ready to go as well!

School Council News

Big picture

Our School Council wants YOU to be involved in life at Rideau. School Council is a dedicated group of parents, guardians, and staff who meet monthly to discuss issues related to school, advise the principal on a variety of matters, and organize fundraisers and other special events to bring the community together. You can find out more about council at our annual Meet and Greet event, Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. That is followed by our Annual General Meeting, Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m., to fill our executive and member positions. We are meeting outside at the Outdoor Classroom this year, so dress for the weather and bring a lawn chair as seating is limited! We hope you can join us!

Remote Learning

The next deadline for opting in or out of Remote Learning is Monday September 14. Please call the school if you are currently on our list of Remote Learners, and would like your child to return to face-to-face learning (or vice versa). On September 24, all remote learners will be transferred to Limestone's 'Virtual School' to continue their year. The Board has yet to determine opt-in dates beyond Monday, but please be aware that if you want to return to in-person learning after that point, your child may not be in the same class they are a part of now, and switching may be subject to waitlisting and space issues.

Terry Fox Run

Big picture
Our Rideau Rhinos will once again be participating in the annual Terry Fox Run this year. This year's run will be held over 2 days, Sept. 29-30, in order to allow for distancing as classes run around the track or the block. Every year this is an important fundraiser for cancer research, and we encourage all students to donate a 'twonie for Terry' - that would raise almost $1000 from our whole school! Online donations are being encouraged this year to reduce contacts, and can be made at .

School Yard Donations

School yard toys must be kept within a class cohort this year, in order to limit contact. We are looking to add to our kindergarten toy collection in order to give each class their own set. We are hoping to get toy trucks and cars, shovels, pails and old kitchen utensils, and one or two more 'gently used' play houses to add to our yard. If you are getting rid of anything that might be suitable for kindergarten children, please contact the school.

Remember a water bottle every day!

leftover items

There are still many bags of student items left over from last Spring. These are mostly school work, but some include indoor shoes, pencil cases, etc. For the most part, the bags are too big to send home with students, so if you would like your child's belongings from last year, please call the school and make arrangements to pick them up. Any items left at the end of the month will be thrown out/recycled/donated as appropriate.

safe arrival

Please remember to report absences through the Safe Arrival Website/App, or by phoning

1-855-257-9349. Even if your child is just going to be late due to an appointment, please report them absent for the day, and we will change it when they arrive. Thanks for your support!
