Eureka Math (K-5) with Great Minds
Eureka Math - Major Work for 3rd-5th - February 20 - Session #2654775
Desire to know more about how math moves in Eureka? Or how to effectively facilitate the tools and major strategies of your grade band? In this session, educators experience the trajectory of learning from 3rd to 5th grade, revealing the coherence of the curriculum. Participants deepen their understanding of the role of each grade in the grade band and learn strategies for adjusting instruction to meet student needs.

Math - Building Conceptual Understanding
To Solve the Problem Below, Try Using a Tape Diagram. It’s an Example of How Different Ways of Doing Math Can Make Hard Problems Easy Read Full Article Here
"In my classroom, I frequently encounter parents inquiring about the push to learn more conceptual math than when they were growing up and why students need multiple strategies for solving problems. Some suggest that simply learning the standard algorithm for a math problem (2+2=4, 6×8=48, etc.) is enough. Some, who really didn’t like math, might even say it’s more than enough."
Math - Problem Solving Strategy
Application Of The Tape Diagram—A Tool For Problem Solving
"So, how would a 5th grader solve the problem? One way would be to follow the RDW process and to draw a tape diagram. Through the RDW process, the student would read and reread the problem, draw a tape diagram to help make sense of the information in the problem, solve the problem mathematically, write an answer statement, and then revisit the original problem to determine if his/her answer makes sense."
Literacy - Knowledge Building Curriculum
States That Want to Boost Literacy Should Keep an Eye on Texas
"The most effective way to ensure all kids will have the vocabulary to understand what they’re expected to read at higher grade levels is to begin immersing them in a knowledge-building curriculum early, while they’re still learning to decode."
