ATTENTION JUNIORS & SENIORS PARENTS

Help your child Transform 15 minutes into 2 credits! Talk about this opportunity below:

How? Turn your existing job into a Youth Apprenticeship and earn up to 2 credits per year and receive a state-issued certification in your area of employment.

Need a job? Contact Mrs. Spengler, Youth Apprenticeship Coach, to receive a list of over 400 local, open, positions in all career clusters: Health Sciences, Manufacturing, Finance, IT, Architecture & Construction, AG, Marketing, Hospitality, Arts & Communication, STEM, and Transportation, and we'll turn that into a Youth Apprenticeship. Complete a short google form, then watch your email for a follow up. In less than 15 minutes, you can be well on your way to earning 2 credits a year, an average wage of $15-$20 per hour, and a state-issued certificate of completion. Participating in YA is a strong indicator of success, so colleges and employers like to see it on your resume.

Think it's too good to be true? It's not! Talk to your friends who are already participating and they'll tell you how easy it is. We are still accepting applications for this year, so don't miss the opportunity! Complete it here: YA Application.

Want to learn more? Contact Mrs. Spengler at beckspen@hssdschools.org.

SHOE FUNDRAISER

We need YOUR HELP!! Please Help Others with a Shoe Fundraiser!

  • Do you have shoes that no longer fit, are out of style, don’t match anything in your closet, or just plain don’t wear or want anymore?

  • We are collecting donations of gently worn or new shoes - almost any style or shape. Any shoes will do, as long as they are not torn or ripped. Flip flops, snow boots, sandals, loafers, tennis shoes - bring them in!

  • This drive has FOUR ways to benefit:

    • 1) donors get to clear their closets of unwanted shoes,

    • 2) shoes stay out of landfills which helps the environment,

    • 3) shoes are repurposed to 24 developing nations which helps their citizens, and

    • 4) Travel Club gets the financial reward of collecting & counting all those shoes, which helps pay for bussing!

    • And all at NO COST to those who participate - nothing to buy and nothing to sell.

  • Drop your shoe donations in the box in the Bay Port rotunda any time the building is open through December 5th.

  • Please help us to collect thousands of pairs of shoes (yes - THOUSANDS!). You can collect unwanted shoes from your neighbors, friends, and family members. Our goal is 2,500 pairs of shoes!

  • Please spread the word about this no-cost, multi-beneficial way to help others. The more shoes, the better for everyone! All gently worn or new shoes accepted!*

*Ski boots and skates do not qualify as shoes - sorry!

THE GIVING TREE

The Giving Tree depends on our schools for food drives. Typically each month we partner with a school who hosts a food drive. In addition to Howard Elementary’s school food drive for November, Bay Port’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) wanted to further support our students and families during the Thanksgiving holiday. If you are looking for a little something extra to give in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday, FBLA would appreciate your support.

This month FBLA is collecting a variety of food items for The Giving Tree that help make long breaks without school breakfast and lunch easier for students and families in need. Please feel free to send donations with your students to put in the collections bins/carts near the main office of school. Items can also be dropped off during school hours. The Giving Tree appreciates the community support in helping FBLA ensure food is not a barrier when students are not in school.
