VPN-PBS and NPR Summer Program Channels and Shows

VPM (formerly known as WCVE) is the largest locally owned and operated public media company in Central Virginia. As Virginia’s home for public media, VPM provides the best of PBS and NPR programming coupled with a strong set of community-based programs and services designed to make an important impact in the areas of arts, news, history, science and education.

VPM is offering its Learning Plus lineup. It is a block of programs for children in grades K-3 and 7-10 developed by Virginia's public media stations and the Virginia Department of Education, based on educational priority areas for the state and content that is available for broadcast. Educational videos and lesson plans for all subjects/grades can be found at pbslearningmedia.org.

Hero Elementary, a new multi-platform animated PBS KIDS series, premiered on June 1. The series is geared toward children ages 4 -7 and teaches them to problem solve by thinking and acting like scientists to ignite their natural curiosity. Here is the Channel listing.

Longwood Region VIII Virtual TAG Summer Camp

There will be twelve classes in Virtual TAG with staggered start-dates, ranging from mid-June through late-July (all individual classes will run for approximately two weeks). Classes also vary in terms of their intended age-range and their levels of technology required for full participation. All of this information is explained more fully on the flyer. Students are invited to participate in UP TO TWO classes. Registration for these classes will be done through a Google form link found on the flyer. In order to make the registration process as fair as possible, registration will involve students indicating their TOP FIVE choices on the form. We will aim to enroll students in two of their top three, but we're asking for their top five in case there are classes that fill quickly. The Google form link is also found below, but parents should be encouraged to read all of the additional information on the flyer before registering their students;

ABC Mouse Summer Camp

To support summer learning and fun, ABCmouse will be launching ABCmouse Summer Camp. Summer Camp provides daily learning adventures for ABCmouse students, who virtually visit warm-weather penguins on the Galapagos Islands, see tar pits with Ice Age fossils, and peek into the pyramids of Egypt. Each adventure begins with an episode of our new animated educational series Search and Explore, followed by a set of related interactive learning activities. There are also many offline activities to keep the fun and learning going beyond the screen. We will email you in early June when the first week of daily lessons is available on your ABCmouse account homepage. If you have signed up for the free account, your account will be extended through Labor Day to allow you to take advantage of this program.
