Random Acts of Kindness
This week, February 8-12, is Random Acts of Kindness Week. The lobby has a special board dedicated this week. Use the board to choose a "random act" and then share your experience. The board will be up all month so that we can keep practicing random acts of kindness throughout February.
February is African American History Month
Established as Negro History Week in the 1920s by Carter G. Woodson, February was chosen for the celebration because Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln were born in this month. Extended to a month-long celebration in 1976, Black History Month is an opportunity to emphasize the history and achievements of African Americans.
We are excited to launch this very special month here at Merryhill!
What is a Number Talk?
"A Number Talk is a powerful tool for helping students develop computational fluency because the expectation is that they will use number relationships and the structures of numbers to add, subtract, multiply and divide". ©2007 Math Perspectives.
Merryhill teachers are incorporating math talks and number talks into their everyday classroom routines. It is exciting to see AND hear students solve problems using higher order thinking skills and collaborative problem solving strategies. We encourage parents to ask students questions about their math homework. Have them be the teacher and explain how they are solving homework problems.
