Building Connections Through Communication!
Love Our Alumni Giving Back - Home Away From Home!
I bet you don't get an alumni asking to come back to school and volunteer often. As you know I was apart of the best buddies program as a senior and I loved that program so much that it made me 100% I want to be a special education teacher. I was wondering if I could come in a be a volunteer or an aide in the best buddies room with Mr.Herring. I will eventually hope to do student teaching and then a teacher but I don't start four c's until January. I really love monomoy and I already know the students so I was hoping I could come back and do the thing I love. I would be happy to come in and have a meeting with you if you'd like whatever works for you! Thank you so much for taking time to read this.
Sincerely,
Saray Dean

Shark "Shout Outs" MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People That Make Our School "A Home Away From Home" Please share any good news with us!
A huge Shark Shout Out to 8th grader Josh Lovely, who stood by a fellow student who was missing an important duffle bag. Josh not only helped the student search for the item, but stayed well after school hours until the friend could be picked up by a parent. Josh then biked his own way home. Kudos to him for contributing to our school wide mantra of "Home away from home" and "you are important!" YOU are important Josh and MRHS appreciates you!
Ms. Ferro
Shout out to Dan Cogswell for helping me trouble shoot on the use of the hive in my classes. Thanks for your efforts in trying to reach a final resolution of the problem.
Best always, Rich Houston
Shout out to Jen Police - she helped immensely with a student - made time in busy schedule to talk to and guide the student. She really knows her students - giving me some great suggestions on how to handle the situation and following up. Thank you!

Connor's Corner- MRHS Athletics Weekly News Update
By: Connor Santoni
The Monomoy Sharks Football team started off the weekend with a game Saturday at 11 in Brockton. The Sharks seemed to dominate the game as soon as they stepped on the field, ending up with a 33-6 victory. Monomoy started scoring early with a touchdown pass from Isaac Hart to Gavin Viera which set the tone for the day. On Monday the field hockey team beat rival Nauset 3-1. The sharks started off the game with a goal in the first minute by Senior captain Emma Mawn. Aoife Daly scored the second goal for the Sharks putting them ahead 2-0. Nauset scored one goal, but the Sharks pulled away to win the game 3-1. A strong defensive game by Senior Livia Graham. Boys Soccer won on the road at Rising tide. The Sharks went ahead early with a goal from Graham Papenfus but Rising Tide scored to tie the game up in the first half. Connor Deveau scored the next goal to put the Sharks ahead and there was no stopping there. Senior Sean Spies scored two goals putting the game almost out of reach, but Rising Tide scored two late goals to close the gap to a 4-3 final score. Girls soccer also played Rising Tide, through a hard fought game they couldn't come away with the win, losing 3-2. Rising Tide struck early and the Sharks couldn’t score till late when Abby Higgins had a 25 yard free kick goal. The boys golf team had two back to back games this week. Tuesday they beat Nantucket 104-100. On Wednesday the Sharks golf team won 117-90 against DY, improving their record to 8-1. A good overall performance from Senior captain Matthew Veary. Thursday was an eventful day, with almost all of the teams having games. Girls soccer played Falmouth Academy at home and came away with the win 2-1 in a close one. Boys soccer had a game away at Falmouth Academy, the game ended up in a 2-2 draw. The Sharks were ahead for awhile, with Sean Spies scoring both of the goals, but let in a late goal that led to the draw. The field hockey team beat Nantucket winning 5-1, Emma Mawn scored the first goal within 25 seconds. Aoife Daly didn't take too much time making the lead 2-0 and the sharks didn’t seem to stop there.
MRHS Culinary Arts & Nutrition Receives Grant from Art of Charity
The MRHS Culinary Arts & Nutrition classes were awarded a grant from the Art of Charity to participate in the Cape Cod Organic Farm CSA this fall which started this week.
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture
A CSA runs for a certain number of weeks (often based around a harvest season) where members pick up a box of freshly harvested produce weekly from a local farm. There is a set, upfront cost for the entire season instead of paying each week or per item. This helps the farm cover upfront growing costs at the beginning of the season when there is less income coming in from farmers markets, etc. but there are many costs to pay for to get the farm up and running.
What are the benefits of being a member of a CSA program?
Being a CSA member means getting the freshest, most local produce- and at times eggs and other goods (we’ll be getting some pork this fall), while being able to support a local, diversified (and in this case, Certified Organic) farm.
Cape Cod Organic Farm’s seasonal local food will supplement our weekly shopping list. Being in a CSA is an exciting adventure in eating and cooking, and allows us to be connected to our food in a way that traditional food shopping does not. Thank you to the Art of Charity for granting us this opportunity!

MRHS Students to Present at MassCUE Conference!
Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE), is Massachusetts’ affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). This October MassCUE partnered with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS) to host New England’s premiere technology-in-education conference at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The conference provided educators with two days chock-full of workshops and networking opportunities.
This year, MassCUE’s annual conference had a record number of over 1,600 teachers and administrators attending each day. There were over 200 50-minute sessions where teachers shared best practices as well as some longer in-depth two-hour sessions.
This year, more than 130 educational technology companies and 15 nonprofits will show off their wares and promote the latest advances in hardware and software.
Inspirational speakers are always a staple of the conference. We will again have our CUEByte talks modeled after the TED Talks. The speakers grab our attention by sharing with us what aspects of education they are most passionate about. One is a student speaker from Chelmsford who you have featured on Chronicle.
Additionally, MassCUE expanded the student showcases with the global education student showcase. We will have CUEKids and Global Ed Kids sharing amazing projects they have done in their classrooms. Students from 30 different school systems across the state will highlight projects that focus on connection with global education, and they will explain their high-quality projects that incorporate learning and technology.
We are excited to let you know students from Monomoy Regional High School will be presenting at this year’s MassCUE conference on Digital Media/TV Production from 10-12 on October 25th in the CUEKid area.

A Message from Ms. Sheila House: Youth Counselor, Harwich, MA
Hello Wonderful Parents and Friends,
This week’s Tech Talk Tuesday speaks to the importance of the relationship between teens and parents. I often find in my own practice that parents are pleasantly surprised when they hear that their teens actually want to spend time with them, despite their busy social lives.
