At Lombard Middle School We Expect...
Cell Phones to Be Put in Lockers
Cell Phones must be on silent and stored inside backpacks during the school day at Lombard Middle School.
At Lombard Middle School we are fortunate to have chromebook devices for all students which allows us to address the educational needs of our students. We also have phones in all classrooms and emergency call buttons to ensure the safety of our students.
Cell phone use has increasingly become a source of distraction and conflict in schools. We don't allow cell phones during the school day because we believe that our students connecting with one another is vitally more important than students connecting to their phone.
Lombard Middle School believes in maintaining a safe and effective educational environment for all of its students. Research shows that the mere presence of cell phones in the school can be detrimental to student performance.
These are the concerns that have caused Lombard Middle School to make this decision:
*Students taking videos and pictures of other students without permission in the classroom and other areas of the school and posting it to social media.
*Students recording fights and posting it on social media.
*Students are distracted from the multiple notifications from various social media accounts throughout the day.
*Students showing up in the office to be picked up without the office staff knowing.
Procedure:
1st Offense: Warning (The student is asked to put the phone in their locker)
2nd Offense: Phone is shut off and brought to office where the student will pick up at the end of the day.
3rd Offense: A guardian will be contacted to pick up the phone.
4th Offense: Phone contract - student will check in the phone and check out the phone at the end of each day.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and productive school environment.
Chromebooks
Lockers
Locks must be issued from the school. Locks brought from home cannot be used. We will have staff available to support students with their locks.
Backpacks and lunches will be locked in lockers. Students will have chromebook bags to carry from class to class. Students will use their lockers when they arrive to school, during lunch if needed, and at the end of the day.
Students may decorate the inside of their locker. Students may not decorate the outside of lockers. Please do not use contact paper or writing on the inside.
Hats and Hoods
In order to keep our school as safe as possible and to help staff identify individuals easily, students should not wear headwear with a hood, bill, brim or otherwise that would impede the ability to identify a student. Thanks for helping us with this expectation.
CHAMPS FOR BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Drop off and Pick Up Locations
Please use Knox St. and its feeder streets (Lombard, Whitesboro, and Locust) to drop your child(ren) off (the areas highlighted green). Please encourage them to use the sidewalks when they approach the building. We encourage you to move from West to East so students can be dropped off/picked up on the school side and avoid having to cross traffic. If this is unavoidable, please help us by directing your child(ren) to the crosswalk located in front of the building. There will be staff member there to help them cross daily.
The staff parking lot (highlighted red) to the east off of Locust St. is not open to pick-ups/drop offs in the morning/afternoon. Additionally, the bus lane off of Lombard street to the West should be avoided. If we all work together we can help keep our students safe and make our process efficient.
Thank you for your help and understanding.
