Principal's Corner
Dear Steeby Families,
We are rounding out the end of our school year. As always we thank you for allowing us to be part of your child’s education each and every day.
Our 3rd graders have completed the state M-STEP testing. They took the English/Language Arts and the Math assessments. Starting next week, our 2nd graders and 3rd graders will take the NWEA reading and math assessments. Please remind your child the importance of a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast each morning, so they are ready to perform their best on these assessments.
This summer we are thrilled to offer the Kids Read Now Reading Program to all of our students again. Your child has selected eight books with the help of their teacher. Starting in May, you should start to receive these books in the mail. These books are your child’s books to keep and enjoy.
Please remember to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Yours in education,
Christina Johnson
Principal
IMPORTANT REMINDER/REQUEST
We want to be sure that parents are getting the messages from the District in case of inclement weather and/or transportation changes for the day.
Thank you for your assistance!

Notes From Music
Spring greetings from the music room! April has gone by really fast and we have been busy in music. This past month we got out the xylophones and glockenspiels in both 2nd and 3rd grade and had fun playing them. Both grades have been learning different folk dances like Alabama Gal and La Bastringue.
I also have been reading books during music to learn about different musicians or cultures. 2nd graders heard the story Libba, about the musician Elizabeth Cotten and 3rd graders heard the story Build A Burrito, where we sang a song along with it and played the xylophones.
Don't miss out on seeing the Wayland High School's musical production of The Descendants May 4th, 5th and 6th.

Media Moments
Happy May!
We have been busy coding in media class in April! Second and third grade students have enjoyed coding on three apps on their iPads. Students have coded using the Light Bot, Spritebox and Kodable apps. These are all free apps that students can also do at home if they wish. Why is coding important? Coding fosters creativity, problem solving skills, and digital literacy. Plus, coding is fun! So check out a fun, free and educational coding app at home today.
Happy Reading and Happy Coding!
