Student Responsible Communication
While we do not permit the use of phones in the elementary school, unless a teacher specifically needs children to use it for a specific task, which is an EXTREMELY rare occurrence, children what's app each other while outside of the school day.
Parents must keep an eye on what your children are texting and doing online. You should know your child's password and look on their phone to see what they have been doing. Elementary school aged children are still learning who they are and how to communicate respectfully.
The proverb "It takes a village" is even more important to take heed to than ever. While AISE - West can teach and discuss communication and responsibility at school, we must rely on parents to help at home and to continue their child's learning in regards to appropriate behavior and communication.
I strongly encourage you to take a look at this article that helps you monitor your child's what's app.
Language
- They are angry or frustrated
- They hear the language at home and 'copy' it
- They want to 'be cool' and 'fit in'
- They want to get a reaction
As you know, foul language is very offensive to those around the person who is using it. We work with children everyday in regards to how they can respectfully express their frustration and that it really isn't 'cool' to use foul language.
As a parent / caregiver, you may be dealing with this issue at home. Here is an article that discusses the why of children using foul language and what you can do as a family to help curb it.
