Recommended Sites

Last flyer I ran a mini competition for some free codes to Alan Peat's latest app. The winners had to submit a website they thought was worthy of featuring in the next flyer. So without further ado, here are the submissions...

MoMA Art Lab

I recommend MoMA Art Lab for 2 reasons. One it's great for playing with basic 2D shapes & two, it's fantastic for creating digital masterpieces.
Aimed at 6-8yr olds

- Angie King

Did you know that MoMA Art Labs is also a FREE app! Check it out at this link.

21st Century Snapshot

For those who haven't seen this website, you must be living under a rock! This is just one of the amazing resource sites created by Shellie Tancred, Principal at Attunga PS. Recommended by Louise Tilse

Fiona's Favourites

Fiona's Favourites is by Fiona Arthurson, a teacher at Wallsend PS. Fiona has created a number of websites to assist teachers looking to use and integrate technology into their primary classroom. Links to all of her sites can be found under the resources tab.

First Fleet - State Library

The next submission was by Vivian Harris. Vivian recommended the First Fleet resources located on the State Library website.

Erin Smith recommends the website - Screenr.

"very handy Web tool that basically records what you are doing on your computer screen as well as your voice. Very handy for creating presentations to share with staff/students as well as a useful tool for students to share their learning."

But wait... there's more!

Grammar For Kids

Grammar For Kids has explanations of all the parts of speech as well as links to games, interactives and quizzes. Very well organised site.

Thanks to Ronda Field for this gem.

While we're on the topic of grammar, have you seen No Red Ink? A free website where you can create student accounts and assign specific grammar quizzes for students. A great pretesting tool!

American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History website is a go to site for all things natural - astronomy, biology, archaeology, paleontology just to name a few. There are fact files, games, quizzes, videos plus loads more.

Sciber Monkey

Sciber Monkey is a web portal that allows students and teachers to search for the most useful links related to their area of inquiry. All sites have been quality assured by science teachers and are categorised according to age groups.

Exciting News!!

US Cartoonist Steve Harpster is coming to Caves Beach PS (via VC). Steve has agreed to run a how to draw session with all of the students at Caves Beach for free. Some of the students in Stage 1 have already been drawing monsters and animals using his step by step drawing books. Check out Steve's website with STACKS of resources here. If you're still not convinced, watch the video below to find out more.

You can book Steve for your school just by leaving a message on his website!

Upcoming Events

National Literacy and Numeracy Week

This year the National Literacy and Numeracy week will be held between 25th - 31st August. Check out the website for plenty of ideas on ways to celebrate this event. You can participate in a national read aloud or collect and contribute data to a nation-wide task.

International Dot Day

This is one of my favourite days of the year. Celebrated on September 15th, International Dot Day is all about connecting, collaborating, creating and celebrating creativity. Check out the website for some ways you can participate. Read the book 'The Dot', raw/paint your own dot, explore your dot in 3D form using augmented reality, created a stop motion.. the list is endless.
