Battle of Antietam
The battle of Antietam was a key victory for the Union because the Union found out about Lee's plan. It was the deadliest single day, about 6,000 soldiers died and about 17,000 more suffered wounds. On September 22,1862, Lincoln announced that he would issue the Emancipation Proclamation.
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle of Gettysburg was in a small town in southern Pennsylvania, started at 7:30 am, on 1863. It was the bloodiest battle of the whole war. It was almost an accident that fight took place. General Lee did not want to fight in a place he did not know well but he encountered the enemy. There were 48,000 casualties. The battle was supposed to end the Civil war. After the battle Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg address, one of the most famous speeches.
Battle of Vicksburg
The battle of Vicksburg was the Unions most successful war. The Union used the anaconda plan. The Unions success at Vicksburg turned the tide of the war leaving the Union in control of the Mississippi River and effectively splitting the confederacy. The town of Vicksburg would not celebrate the Fourth of July for 81 years.
