January 19, 2018
What an exciting week! Most of us did get to see snow even though we did not get to experience an accumulation. We southerners (at lease some of us) do get excited by the hope of seeing these white fluffy flakes!!! I do thank you for your understanding and support of the district's decisions in handling the weather as these decisions come with much thought and input from many resources. It is all about the safety of our children!
Speaking of safety, I have had quite a few parents contact me about the safety of children during arrival when parents let children get out of the car on the driver's side. We have shared this concern several times but I do want to remind parents to park in the front parking lot if for some reason your child can only get out on the driver's side and walk your child across the crosswalk. Drivers of cars passing the car dropping off could easily misjudge distance or the child might drop something and dart after it causing a horrific accident. Whether small or large, an accident of this nature would truly be devastating to all.
Another concern shared by several parents is in the doubling and tripling of lanes during dismissal. While our traffic directors take note of a "marker car" for moving the next row so that it is close to the order of the driver's arrival, we are told that some drivers are jumping lines and undermining our good intentions. Please be kind to all and respect the lines of traffic. We teach kindness and respect to our children so please appropriately model. Thank you for your help with this! Thank you to our parents who have experienced this but remained calm and patient in our pick up lines!
Please note that Wednesday, January 24, is Collaborative Planning Day. School will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. Both breakfast and lunch will be served. If your child is going home in a different way or need Midway after school care until 2:25, please send a note to your child's teacher. Also, please remember that for your child to attend AlphaBest, you must register with them.
I hope to see many of you at our French Bingo Night tonight! It is from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and is free family fun! Please remember you do not have to be in French Immersion to attend as the Bingo cards have pictures for those of us who do not speak the French language.
Have a wonderful weekend, read a great book and get outside for some fun with you child or children!! The weekend weather is suppose to be much better than this week's!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary
