Look for information coming home soon about report card conferences. Sign up information will come home with students in their Friday folders or via email, depending on your teacher.

A Kilo of Rice A Day
iDream of being connected to the global community...
iBelieve we can make a difference!
iThink we have an opportunity right now!
McDougle Dolphins are Doing something to help families in the Philippines after the recent earthquake there! The McDougle community includes teachers and students with family members in the Philippines. One of them, Jarmie Bateson (System-Level Teacher at MES), has initiated a collection called “A Kilo Of Rice A Day”. Donations to Ms. Bateson’s project will be used for daily purchases of a kilo of rice, canned goods, and water for families who have lost their livelihood and farm lands due to the earthquake. Members of the MES community are invited to make cash donations to this project through November 15. Donations may be put in the collection box at Ms. Lin’s desk where they will be kept safe and then distributed to Filipino families in need.

UNC FEMMES
UNC FEMMES 2013
"Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science"
FEMMES is a one-day outreach program which introduces young girls (4th, 5th, and 6thgrade) to mathematics, engineering, and science. The goal of FEMMES is to provide girls with a hands-on experience in fields where women are often greatly under-represented. By using female student volunteers and faculty members from UNC, we hope to demonstrate that women can and do excel in these fields. The faculty volunteers are asked to lead sessions of fun hands-on activities, while the UNC students are the girls’ “counselors” for the day! All campers are served pizza for lunch, and receive a souvenir to take home!
This year's event will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 9am-3pm at Phillips Hall on UNC's campus. We are very excited to enroll 150 girls for this year’s event. Spots in the program are determined by the first 150 applications we receive. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the application provided in the link below. Applications are due by October 27, 2013. We look forward to seeing you!
