Student at Home Learning Space
A student's environment impacts their learning greatly. It is very important that students have a effective space to learn daily without distraction. See the article below for more information and the expectation for IKCA Student Home Learning Environment.
Five Considerations for Creating Learning Spaces at Home - Article
Expectation for IKCA Students' Home Learning Environment
- Work at a table or Desk - Students need to sit at a desk or table to help with focus and engagement. Students should not be in bed or laying down. This also helps to have students in the proper camera view for google meetings.
- Cameras On/Mic Off- Students are required to have their cameras on while meeting with teachers. This helps the teacher hold the student accountable for their work and participation. The student is also required to keep their mics muted unless they have permission to turn them on.
- Lights On - Students should be in a well lit room with light in front of them not behind. This helps students stay focused and be able to have a clear picture on their camera video feed.
- No Distractions - Students need to be in a location at home with little to no distractions. They need to be separated from others when possible and have no TV, phones, or other forms of entertainment while participating in class or doing work. Students should also not be talking to other at home while working or in meeting unless they are getting assistance.
- Headphones - Students should wear headphones at home while in meetings or watching videos. This helps students to focus on the class and drown out what is going on around them. It can also help with hearing and speaking during meetings.
- No Eating - Students should not eat while on camera or during class instruction. Students are not suppose to have food or drink around IKCA Chromebooks. Food can also be distracting from the meeting or lesson.
- Independent Work - Students should be doing their work independently unless getting support from their teachers. You may help your students with technology or accessing work but students should complete their work without help.
5 Frequently Asked Questions
- Why won't Google Docs, Meet, Classroom or other Google products work? - Most of the time if a Google docs are not opening it is because the student is not signed in to their google account. - Why can't I sign into Clever? - If you are trying to sign in to Clever with a Clever Badge and it is not working, usually it is because Clever is missing information it needs. Your teacher can check Jupiter Grades for the appropriate information needed. To login without a badge you can login with a username and password.

If you are in a meeting and your mic or camera is not working, check your settings to see if you have them enabled. If you do, then leave the meeting and re-enter.
- How does a Middle School student know what class to be in? - Your teacher sent you a schedule with your class periods and teachers. Check your email and/or Jupiter messages for that schedule.
