Wayne CIA Update
Summer 2015
Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Update
Highlighted Changes
The state assessment dates were approved at the State Board of Education (SBOE) meeting on July 1st. The Indiana Department of Education's work with the new testing vendors began on July 6th. This year's timeline for decision making and working with vendors is considerably behind previous year's work.
New ISTEP+ Grades 3-8 and 10
Approximately 50 groups of educators from across the state will meet in July, August and September for work on the new state assessments for grades 3-8 and grade 10. The good news is that the state of Indiana owned the ISTEP+ questions. Pearson, the new ISTEP+ vendor, will be starting with the existing questions to build their new version of the ISTEP test. In the ISTEP+ for grades 3-8, we do not expect much change based on information we are getting from the state.
ISTEP+ 9 Grade
The state will not be administering a 9th grade ISTEP+ assessment as expected for this school year; however, several schools across the state will pilot the 9th grade ISTEP+ test this school year. We expect the 9th grade assessment to be officially added to the state assessment calendar in the 2016-2017 school year.
ISTEP+ 10 Grade
Grade 10 students will have a new domain based assessment administered in the spring of 2016 for English/Language Arts, Math, and Science. Scores for the test will be used for school accountability. Beginning with 10th grade students in 2016-2017, the graduation test becomes the NEW 10th Grade ISTEP+ English/Language Arts and Mathematics.
ISTEP+ Blueprints and Guidance Documents
We expect the IDOE to release the updated ISTEP+ blueprints and guidance documents in early August. Watch for the addition of grade 10 ISTEP+ information. (DOE ISTEP+ info link)
IREAD3
Unlike ISTEP+, the state did not own the IREAD3 assessment questions. Pearson will work alongside the IDOE to create a new IREAD3 assessment as similar to the previous assessment as possible. Watch for more information...
New Formative Assessments
In the past, the state contracted McGraw Hill to administer our Acuity formative assessment. This year the state has developed an entirely new framework for the state supported formative assessments in grades 3-10. Vendor selection and information sharing is currently in progress, and we expect to learn more in August. We will continue to share information through your principals and in our monthly CIA Update. Thank you in advance for your patience as we make this transition with our formative assessment system.
ACCUPLACER
The state added an ACCUPLACER student growth measure from 11th to 12th grade. We expect this growth measure to be incorporated into the new report card formula for high schools. Watch for continued updates from the DOE and our CIA team.

GCL: Growing Collaborative Learners and Leaders
Thanks for supporting us as we work with your new teachers and second year teachers to be sure they are on track for completing GCL requirements as expected. Wendy Skibinski is leading our GCL planning with the support of our CIA secretary, Monica Stahlhut, and a great group of GCL facilitators. Second year teachers can check their GCL status by reviewing their PDExpress transcript for completed courses. If they have questions, teachers can email Monica with questions.
New Teacher GCL Training - Title I Temporary Contract GCL Participation
- Title I teachers on temporary contracts should complete GCL training requirements. There was some confusion regarding Title I temporary contract teacher participation in the past; however, we believe GCL training is important for our teachers to meet the overall expectations of a contracted Wayne educator. If you have questions or if you have a Title I teacher who is out of compliance, please talk with Wendy or me. I am sure we can work through any challenges together.
New Teacher GCL Training - Temporary Contract GCL Participation
- New Wayne educators on temporary contracts that are a semester or less do not participate in GCL seminars for new teachers.
- New neophyte Wayne educators on ONE YEAR temporary contracts should participate in GCL seminars for new teachers.
Language Assistance Program Family Night

Naviance
Naviance is a comprehensive college and career readiness solution for middle and high schools that helps align student strengths and interests to post-secondary goals, and improve student outcomes. This year our focus will not only be on student engagement, but also with our families. Naviance offers a comprehensive website that allows families and their student(s) to make plans about colleges, and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance, a service that we use in our district to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that’s specific to our district. Families will be given the following information pamphlet Why Naviance during schedule pick up, back to school night, and will be available at reception areas in our secondary schools.
