A Message From Our PTSA President
Hello Dwyer Families,
I thought I would send out a little note as 2017 is coming to an end. We all
will be thinking and planning for 2018 as well as making New Year’s Resolutions that we
all hope to keep. When you are thinking about the New Year, I challenge you to think
about how you can devote just a small amount of time getting to know what’s going on at
Dwyer and with our middle school kiddos. I think that most of us think once the kids start
middle school that they don’t need OR want us around at school as much. That may very
well be the case, but from experience with my 20-year-old son, this is definitely not the
time to take a step back. Now is the time to step up with any time you have to get to know
who they are hanging out with, who those kid’s parents are, and how their day-to-day
goes when they are at Dwyer. My family and I only moved here about 8 years ago and I
owe PTA for all the wonderful people and friends I have met. I love that I know who my
twin’s friends are at school and who their parents are. We would love to see you attend
our PTSA meetings and discuss any concerns you may have or ask any questions. Our
amazing Principal Glembocki is always there to chat and make sure we are all up to date
on the ins and outs of the school. Plus, we will feed you and give you nice hot coffee (our
Hospitality team rocks)!
Membership is a huge deal for PTA’s across the nation. Everyone thinks of PTA as
a fundraising annoyance but the only reason we have to do that is because we have no
choice in the matter due to budget cuts. The PTA is there to make sure the kids get the
BEST opportunities in their education, and that the kids have a voice. The more members
we have the bigger voice our kids have in Sacramento with our legislators. Please
consider becoming a PTSA member at Dwyer. Your children and other family members
can even become members too, NO STRINGS ATTACHED. For the competitive parents like
myself, I am sad to say that Sowers is beating us by about 300 members. EEK! We have
455 members, and 1350 students. We should have at the very least 700 memberships,
which is about half the study body not counting the parents. Membership is $10 and is
now available online through PayPal on the Dwyer website- so please join!
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions/concerns. I am here
for the sole purpose of making sure I am part of my kid’s middle school years and that
they, along with all their peers, have the best education they can get. It makes my heart
happy when they like that I’m there too. For some of you the kids might not show it but
they will NEVER forget it. So, please join PTSA and join us once a month at the PTSA
meetings. Have a wonderful holiday break and I hope to see you in 2018.
Your PTSA President,
Mandi Silvaggio
