Excellence in a Creative Environment for Learning
DBE Online Store!
Several students have expressed interest in having a DBE store. We have arranged to have a temporary online store so students, parents, and staff can purchase DBE merchandise (Shirts, hoodies, hats, bags, etc.). The store will be open until midnight on Sunday, March 26. Most shirts have color options and a back logo option. The back logo option is our purpose statement - “We are different… On purpose… For a purpose." If you choose to have that printed on the back then there is an extra charge. If you do not want it, just select NO from the Back Logo drop down menu. Merchandise will be ordered over Spring Break and will be delivered to students when they return from break. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Shaffer at sshaffer@k12k.com.

Teacher Feature: Introducing Mr. Conkin
Mr. Jay Conkin is currently serving as DBE's Social Studies teacher. Mr. Conkin's content knowledge includes: U.S. History, World History, Government, and Economics. Jay graduated from Sullivan South High School before playing football at Wheaton College. He then earned a Bachelor's of Art from East Tennessee State University and a Master's degree from Milligan.
Jay knew from a young age that he always wanted to work in an educational environment. Mr. Conkin joined the DBE faculty in January of this year, and he has been a tremendous asset thus far.
When Mr. Conkin is not spending time working in the classroom, he enjoys hiking, fishing, playing with his Golden Doodle, Zoey, and traveling with his wife, Emilee. You will also find Jay coaching on the football field or reading up on WWII history.
Mr. Conkin loves that DBE has a modern, open environment for students, but also for the teachers, as well. He thinks that DBE's staff is both top-notch and world-class, and he cannot imagine himself working anywhere else! For this reason, we are glad that Jay is on our team!
DigiGirlz Day
DigiGirlz, a Microsoft YouthSpark program, gives middle and high school girls opportunities to learn about careers in technology, connect with Microsoft employees, and participate in hands-on computer and technology workshops.
This FREE event is focused on getting high school girls excited about careers in Information Technology. The event will be held at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education on April 7th. During the event, students interact with Microsoft employees and managers to gain exposure to careers in business and technology and to get an inside look at what it's like to work at Microsoft. This exciting event provides girls with career planning assistance, information about technology and business roles, thought-provoking exercises, and interesting Microsoft product demonstrations. By participating in the Microsoft DigiGirlz Day, young women can find out about the variety of opportunities available in the high-tech industry and can explore future career paths. If you have questions, see Ms. Adinolfi.
