CONFERENCE WEEK
Conference Week is scheduled for March 20-24, and it will be here before we know it. Specific instructions will be provided on Monday. However, if you are wanting to use
Sign-up Genius to manage your conferences, you may go ahead and begin setting it up.
Monday and Tuesday will be late days, and an administrator will be present and available until 7:20; your last time availability should be 7:00pm.
An administrator will be present and available until 5:30 on Wednesday and Thursday; your last time availability should be 5:00pm.
It is important that all parents are given the opportunity for a conference, and I will send out specifics on Monday.

Play with Passion
This is the time of year when your commitment, sanity, desire, will, and passion will all be challenged. During this time, it is so important to lean on your own "why". Your purpose for choosing to continue in this profession should drive you more than any assessment.
But remember this....this is also the time of year when our students' commitment, sanity, desire, will, and passion will also be challenged. They are no different from us, and they need you to bring your best every day. Students will feed off of your passion and energy for what you are teaching and wanting them to learn.
Spring is in the air, and the next 5 weeks will bring many distractions for our students. Keep them focused and engaged while you have them in your classroom - this is truly the only time in which you control. PLAY WITH PASSION!

I am looking forward to our TOTY Assembly on March 2. I received so many great nominations, and that made the process of selecting one very difficult. We will call you to the gym by grade level after homeroom. Please make sure you have planned for the day using the morning assembly schedule provided by Mrs. Curtis.
Focus Walk Feedback
Some of the feedback we received from our Focus Walk was the need to increase consistency with vocabulary rich conversations with rigor. Increasing student vocabulary can be beneficial in so many different directions. Take a look at the article below and begin to think of ways you can bring a rigorous vocabulary learning experience to your classroom.
I will share more feedback as we progress through the remainder of the year and plan for next year.

Absence Analysis
February has been a difficult month. We have had a lot of folks who have been victim to the flu or other illness.
Remember to wash your hands frequently to prevent the spread of germs. Drink lots of healthy fluids to flush your body of toxins and get some exercise. We need your best you here!
Please focus on being here every day during the month of March. We have a break upcoming in 5 weeks - this is the shortest, and most important stretch of the year. You can do this!

Our SIP and Great, Every Day Practices
1. We will increase the number of students at or above Lexile levels on the Universal Screener.
2. We will increase the number of students who score proficient or higher by 10% on the EMBRACER writing protocol.
3. We will decrease the amount of students in all grades who fail 2 or more classes for the EOY average.
While we have a plan to increase student learning in specific areas; effective collaboration, planning, instruction, and assessment should be a daily focus. How are you doing in these key areas?
1. There is a connection between the activities in class to our SIP goals (specifically reading and writing).
2. There is evidence of collaboration within grade level departments. Daily snapshots are explicit and provide a clear focus.
3. A 3 part lesson model is used (opening, work session, and student led closings). Some of you communicate this on your board in the form of an agenda.
4. Students are actively engaged in a student centered learning environment. Learning is accomplished through "doing", not "sitting and getting".
5. Students understand the purpose of the EQ, how it connects to what they are doing in class, and how what they are learning is applicable in the "real world".
