From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Happy Mother's Day, especially to our wonderful Band Moms!
It was wonderful to have a true Band Banquet again this past Friday evening! It was nice to have the chance to reflect on the year collectively and celebrate individual successes. Congratulations to all of our Winter Park Band students on an outstanding 2021-2022 school year, and a special congratulations to the Class of '22 - go out into the world and make us proud!
The banquet would not have been a success without the incredible effort of our amazing Band Booster Board parents. I'd like to especially thank Ellen DeLoach for coordinating the delicious dinner, all the parent volunteers who helped serve the meal, and Dana Adkinson for creating and putting together all of the stage decorations. I can't say thank you enough to Natalie Storch for her tireless work to support the Band program and these students over the last few years. You have been nothing short of amazing stepping into this role and helping to navigate the challenges the program has had to endure. I'm glad I don't have to say "see you later" since you'll still be here for the next two years!
On behalf of both Mr. Smith and myself, thank you all for your generous gift. We are both so lucky to be a part of this wonderful school and community!
All tuxedo jackets, tuxedo pants, and concert dresses must be dry cleaned and returned to the Band room by Monday, May 9. When you return your uniform, please clearly mark the uniform with the student name and leave it in the plastic from the dry cleaner to keep it clean for summer storage. Students who fail to clean and return their school-owned uniform will be responsible to the cost of a replacement uniform.
If you were unable to join us for Band Registration Night last week, please visit www.winterparkhsband.com/register and complete the simple 3-step process. All forms may be turned into the Band office as soon as you are able. Please also spread the word to incoming families that you may know! Sometimes the message doesn't get all the way from the middle school directors to the parents and we can use all the help we can get!
Thank you to everyone who heeded this message last week. Obligations for this school year should have been alleviated this past week. However, the Band program is still owed $10,463.00 in past due obligations from this past school year alone. Please locate either a past Cut Time account statement in your email inbox, or log into your Cut Time account anytime, 24/7, to view your student's account balance. If there is a past due balance, you may make a payment in the "BAND FAIR SHARE 2021/2022" item on SchoolPay.com or bring a check to Band Registration Night. Please contact both Lori Gavin and myself if you have questions regarding your student's account statement. If you have any questions, please email both Lori Gavin and me and we will help as quickly as possible. I understand that hardships arise, and I am more than willing to work with any family that is in need.
This week we have our final big events both to close out the 2021-2022 school year as well as create new beginnings for 2022-2023.
- Tuesday, May 10, Marching Percussion Placement Auditions will take place in the Band room from 6 - 8 PM.
- Thursday, May 12, the Spring Color Guard Showcase will take place in the Auditorium at 6 PM. Come watch out talented guard students!
- Saturday, May 14: Mini-Camp for Incoming Freshmen/New Marchers, Student Leadership, Percussion, and Color Guard, 12 - 6 PM (food provided)
- Sunday, May 15: Mini- Camp for ALL 2022-2023 Sound of the Wildcats students, 2 - 8 PM (food provided)
Let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Natalie Storch
Week of May 8, 2022
Happy Mothers’ Day to all today!
Thank you so much to all of the folks who made the banquet happen—Ellen DeLoach in the food realm (and your awesome team of setter uppers, decorators, servers, and clean -up crew) and Dana Adkinson (and her decorating/set up team) and the directors, too. Everything was wonderful, and it was so nice to celebrate the students. Thank you to Maddie and your team as well. It was nice to be able to have a program to acknowledge the hard work/accomplishments of every student after 2 years of virtual! The banquet was so much fun!!
On a personal note, thank you so much for the generous and thoughtful gifts! You are all amazing parts of the program. I will miss being in the role but will enjoy being around for 2 more years and know the success of the program is in wonderful hands with Dana Adkinson taking over. Thank you to the students, the parents, the band booster board, and the directors for the immense support and fun over the past 3 years—years that have come with challenges but so many more successes. Thank you also to my own family--Michael, Charlie, and Lilah --for supporting me this role and helping so much along the way!
Don’t forget—if you are interested in helping in any capacity with all things band, please contact me, Dana, or one of the directors. We welcome and appreciate all help!! If you know any Freshmen parents coming in, please encourage them to be involved—it really does make such a difference in the lives of the students and helps the program immensely.
Seniors---we will miss you so much and are so proud of you. We can’t wait to see what is next for each of you, whatever that may be!!
With gratitude---
Natalie Storch

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
