Cougar Chronicles
January 22, 2023
Dear LSE Family,
Do you know how much uninterrupted sleep you child needs in order to learn well, be focused, and have a high immune system? All elementary aged children (up to 12 years old) need 9-12 hours of sleep each night. Believe it or not, this number is even higher than I thought it was too!
Why might you ask, am I putting this as the topic of our parent newsletter? First, I want our students to learn at their highest potential each day. We are having LOTS of student fall asleep daily at their desks, ask to go to the health room with the need to just sleep. They simply cannot funtion at their best if they are chronically tired.
Tips we have to help:
- Remove electronics 1 hour before bedtime
- Have a set bedtime each night
- Remove electronics from the sleeping area....Students often tell us they get up to seach YouTube, TikTok, or to message others in the middle of the night
- Have set wake up/morning routine
If you ever need assistance, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or to me! We are more than glad to problem solve with you 1 on 1!
We are encouraging students and staff to wear Chief's attire or red/black with workout gear to support our home team into the AFC Championship game all week! Go Chief's!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tracy Sanders, Principal

This exhibit will be on display for the next 4-6 weeks and explores the connections of African American baseball history to that of Hispanic cultures. An open house event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m on Jan. 24.
Many LSE Staff members are meeting to attend together for the Open House Tuesday, January 24th.
Teacher and Support Staffer of the Year Nominations - Let's Go LSE!
Teacher of the Year
Nominations have opened for the R-7 Teacher of the Year and the Chamber of Commerce Excellence In Teaching Awards. Students, parents and staff members may nominate any R-7 certified staff member - teachers, library media specialists, instructional tech/curriculum specialists or counselors - who have worked for the R-7 District at least five years for the R-7 Teacher of the Year/Chamber of Commerce Excellence In Teaching Awards.
This year, we've gone digital! All nominations will be collected through this online form. More information about the TOY program can be found on our website.
Twelve Excellence In Teaching winners and up to three Teachers of Distinction will be recognized and the Teacher of the Year will be revealed at an April 2023 reception/presentation.
Introducing Support Staffer of the Year
For the first time ever, the district will host a Support Staffer of the Year awards program alongside its Teacher of the Year program for all non-administrative employees who are not eligible for Teacher of the Year. Any LSR7 employee who has been employed by the School District for at least one year and is serving in a role that is not teacher-certificated, administrative or supervisory is eligible for Support Staffer of the Year. Six Support Staffer of the Year finalists will be selected by a roundtable of district administrators and revealed at the April 2023 reception. Read more about eligibility here. All nominations will be collected through this online form.
Deadline: Nominations for both TOY and SSOY are due by EOB on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
