and my hope is in you all day long.
From the Principal
Dear St Columba’s school community,
Staff Wellness Day
I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend last week and took the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends. I am a big believer in building a school community that collaborates, listens to one another and works together towards the ‘bigger picture’. For me, this starts with the team that I work with every day. Last Friday, the staff embarked on a Staff Wellbeing day that focused on all these aspects of team building, while participating in a historical scavenger hunt around the City of Perth. The day was not only fun but a reminder that we all need to take time to look after ourselves and enjoy the company of those around us.
Catholic Performing Arts Festival
Our Year 4 students participated in the Creative Dance section of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival on Thursday, August 19 with the performance taking place on the stage at the Perth Convention Centre. The students danced their way into the audience’s hearts and received wonderful feedback from the judges. A very big thank you to Mrs Buiks, Mrs Daniele, Miss Bechelli and Mrs McDonald on preparing our students so well for this big event! Our Performing Arts journey concludes next week with the Drama section.
Book Week
Monday was the beginning of Book Week with the theme ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’. As you might have gathered, Book Week is one of my favourite days and I was thrilled to see most students dressing up as their favourite book character and taking part in the Book Week parade. Mrs Shaw did a fantastic job of organising the teacher’s item which was great! At the end of the assembly, I challenged the students to read (or be read to) at least 10 picture books or one novel throughout the week.
National Science Week
Last week was National Science Week. Due to other commitments that week, we postponed our Science Week activities conducting them on Tuesday. Mrs Celedin planned some excellent science experiments that I think the students, teachers and parent helpers enjoyed. The reaction from our students when they took part in the ‘magic milk’ experiment was priceless and it warmed my heart to see the older students enjoy blowing bubbles! Well done and thank you Mrs Celedin! Also, thank you to the parent helpers who offered their assistance on the day. It was great to have parents helping out and enjoying themselves, even if it was a bit messy.
Next Week: School Photos and Father's Day
A reminder to everyone, that Week 7 is a very busy week. School Photos and Father’s Day celebrations are the highlights of this week. When it comes to School Photos, please ensure that all students are wearing the correct school uniform (Year 3 to 6 - no sports uniform to be worn on that day) and that personal presentation is at a high standard. This includes hair styles, hair accessories and jewellery. Please refer to our uniform policy if you are unsure of what is expected.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!
God Bless

National Science Week
A huge thank you to all the parents who came in on Tuesday to help run our science week investigations. The students all had a wonderful time making ice cream, rainbow bubbles and magic milk. These days only work with the support of our fabulous parents, so thank you!
This week the students from years 3 to 6 have been invited to take up the Periodic Table Challenge. Those who are game will test their memories in science classes next week to see who can recall the most elements from the periodic table in order.

P&F
Hi Everyone,
What a busy week we have all had with Book Week and Science Day. The children have loved it. We thank the staff for their hard work and enthusiasm.
Please, please remember to place your orders for your children's "Cards That Count" as it closes on the 29th August. So don't miss out. $5.00 from each order goes to the P&F which then enables us to purchase items for all our children.
Father's Day breakfast is next Friday 3rd September at 7.30am. Children are welcome to come along and join in. We thank the Year 3 classes for organising this event and all of the hard work going into it.
Reminder to keep donating toys and books for the fair stalls. Thank you to everyone that has been working hard on preparing their stalls.
Our next P&F meeting is on Tuesday 31st August at 7pm in the staff room. Everyone is welcome. It is a great way to have input and hear what is happening. We are also planning for the P&F next year. It's always wonderful seeing new faces join us.
Cheers

A dynamic final round of tipping played out between Binns Clan, BenBristow18 and Goal Sneak that saw the final standings change from positions entering the final round. A late charge by BenBristow18 made for an interesting final game of the round to see who tipped Kangaroos or the Crows and determine final standings.
