MES NEWS!
News & Notes from Ms. Kapuchuck
October 24, 2021
I hope all of you are having a great end to the weekend! This is another four day week with school closed on Friday, October 29th for a teacher workday. School will also be closed on Monday, November 1st for Parent Teacher Conferences and again on November 2nd for a teacher in-service day.
All classroom teachers have sent out a sign-up genius for parents to sign up for a conference on November 1st. Conferences are in-person or virtual via ZOOM. I encourage you to set up a time to talk with your child's teacher, either in-person or virtually, about their progress so far this year! Masks are required by everyone attending in-person conferences at all times.
MES is still selling sweatshirts and long sleeved t-shirts with our new logo! Please let us know if you need a new order form! These have been very popular so far! All proceeds will go toward school projects to support the needs of all students!
Due to COVID, our t-shirts have taken longer than expected to come in. They are supposed to arrive this week! These will be sent home with children who ordered them.
Please note a change in the calendar below! This Thursday is now PJ DAY OR Book Character Day! Students may choose to be cozy in PJs or show off their favorite Book Character costume!
Please take a moment to read through the rest of this newsletter for important updates and information. As always, we welcome your feedback, questions, and praises. Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time. I feel honored to work with your children each day!
Have a great week ahead!
Leslie

A message from Ms. Mitchell about Healthy Choices Week!
October is a month full of many observances, including National Bullying Prevention Month, Unity Day, and Red Ribbon Week. All of these observances share a focus of promoting safety and physical and emotional wellness among our students and school community
So, during the month of October, we would like to observe our own “Healthy Choices” week. This will be a time to support students in being able to think about how they can make choices that demonstrate personal responsibility and promote physical and emotional health for themselves and others.
Monday, October 25th: “Marvelous Me” Monday
“Having positive thoughts and feelings about myself is an important part of helping me be emotionally healthy.” Think about what makes you the marvelous person you are. Wear (school appropriate) clothes that reflect something about you.
(examples: a favorite outfit that shares your style, a t-shirt for a sports team you are on or that shares one of your favorite things--like dinosaurs, unicorns, etc.)
Tuesday, October 26th: Team Tuesday
“Having a good team to support me at home and school helps to keep me emotionally healthy.” Think about people in your life that help you. At MES, we are a team and everyone on our team is important. Wear your MES red and/or black to show your team spirit.
Wednesday, October 27th: Wellness Wednesday
“Eating nutritious foods helps to keep my body healthy”: Think about some of the foods you like to eat to keep your body healthy. Wear a color that represents one of your favorite foods.
Thursday, October 28th: “Time to be Cozy” Thursday
“Getting enough sleep keeps my body comfortable and at its best.” Think about things that you can do, like a night time routine or screen-free time close to bedtime, to help you sleep well. Wear pajamas and be cozy today. Students may also dress as their favorite Book Character.
Friday, October 29th- School Closed for Teacher Workday.
RCPS COVID-19 & Health Plan Information
You can find the RCPS reopening information by clicking here. You can find the RCPS health plan here.
We continue to follow the same health and safety procedures as last year when it comes to COVID-19. Thank you for understanding that all of our schools in RCPS are following this plan in order to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding as we navigate this "new normal".
As COVID numbers in our area are rising we need to come together as a team to keep our children healthy and safe.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF:
They have to take any medications to make them feel better or reduce fever
They have had a fever of 100.4 or higher in the last 24 hours
They have a bad cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, a runny nose that will soil more than 2 masks per day
Someone in your household is sick and being tested for COVID
If you think that you have been exposed to COVID, DO NOT send the child to school without consulting the school first.
If you are unsure of household contact or have any questions as to whether or not your child should attend school, please call the office at 540-289-3004 and ask to speak with the school nurse.
Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students and staff safe and healthy!

Transportation Changes- IMPORTANT!
Any same-day transportation changes during the school year must occur before 1:30pm. Please make sure these are taken care of through the office, rather than contacting the teacher, so that we can ensure your child gets home safely! Often, teachers do not have time to check messages and email during the day, so it is important that these changes are communicated to the office. The office will take care of making sure teachers know of the transportation changes.
