Global Day of Play

On Wednesday, February 6, TCE will celebrate Global School Day of Play. Due to our study trip to the mall that day, Room 6 will celebrate on Friday, February 8th. Unstructured play is vital to the development of a child. Our goal is to teach children about the importance of play by making it a priority. On Friday, February 8th students can bring in their favorite toys from home. Toys brought from home should be school appropriate and fit into their backpacks. Thank you for helping us make this day a success!

Flat Fork Creek Park study trip- rescheduled

We were so disappointed when weather did not cooperate for our originally scheduled study trip to Flat Fork Creek Park. However, our class (along with Mrs. King, Mr. Wallace, and Mrs. Bleill's classes) will travel to Flat Fork Creek Park on Thursday, February 14th. We will leave for the park at 9:30a.m. We will spend about an hour and fifteen minutes at the park. We will go back to our original special spots at the park and observe how nature has changed for winter. We will see what wildlife we can see and the difference in weather/temperature from October (first study trip there) to now. We will leave Flat Fork Creek at 11a.m. No sack lunches are needed for this trip as we will return to TCE before lunch. Students will need to dress or bring winter clothing items. Please have your child dress in layers and bring boots, hats, gloves, and warm winter coats. There is no cost for this trip as you paid for all three study trips to Flat Fork Creek at the beginning of the school year. You gave permission for this trip as well.

A Message from Global Studies!

Global Studies Newsletter

*** Important information regarding Chinese Snack Tasting is included in this newsletter and your response is needed if you decide to opt-out.***

In the recent two weeks 1st to 4th grade students have been learning how to say some animals in Chinese. 2nd-4th grade students are doing a great job using the verbs “like” and “have” to form sentences like “I have cats”, “You don’t have dogs”, “I like horses”, and “You don’t like snake”. They also learned how to ask questions like “Do you like horses?” and “Don’t you like rabbits?” in Chinese. I am so impressed with how quickly they learn! 1st grade students had lots of fun learning about the 12 Chinese zodiac animals and coloring Happy New Year 2019, the Year of Pig.

During the week of February 11, 2019, students will be tasting a Chinese snack during their Global Studies class. Please see picture below for the nutrition information. If you do NOT wish your child to taste the snack, please fill out the Opt-Out form by following the link below and submit your response by February 1st, 2019. We will also send out paper permission slips home for certain students with allergy concerns. Thank you for your attention!
