Stage 1 Overview Term 3, 2020
Dear Parent/Caregiver
Welcome back to Term 3! We are excited to be back teaching in the classroom and the students have done a wonderful job settling back into our new kind of ‘normal’. We hope that you are all staying well during this time.
In this overview you will find information about your child’s learning for this term.
Phonics
Teachers use the 'Get Reading Right' program to explicitly and systematically teach phonics. Students will continue to learn new phonemes and camera words relevant to their individual needs.
Writing: Imaginative texts
This term our students will be exploring imaginative texts. They will be learning how to structure imaginative texts and learning how to use interesting vocabulary to enhance their writing.

Students will be learning to use the retell strategy and analyse character’s actions, feelings and emotions to gain a better understanding of different texts. They are also encouraged to read their home readers on a regular basis and read self-selected books for enjoyment.

Students will continue to build on their mathematical knowledge and skills using the Stepping Stones program.
History: The Past in the Present
Students will be exploring what aspects of the past we can see today and how technology has changed over time.
Sport
Students will be focusing on developing their Fundamental Movement Skills through modified activities and games.
CAPA: Music and Creative Arts
In Music students will be exploring and creating sound through body percussion and other instruments. In Creative Arts students will be using a variety of techniques and materials to create unique artworks.
Education Week
Next week is Education Week and the theme this year is 'Learning Together'. It's a theme that reflects an incredible year for NSW public school students, staff and parents, and the partnerships that have been strengthened in response. Education Week is a time to celebrate NSW Public Education and the achievements of our schools and our students. Stage 1 students will be using Seesaw to share some of their learning with you. Over the coming week we encourage you to jump onto their journal and share in the celebration of your child’s achievements.
We thank you for your continued support in your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the school office to arrange a time to speak with your child’s teacher.
Kindest regards
