Oct 12 - 16 is National School Lunch Week
Did you Know?
- In 180 school days, approximately 30 million children are served healthy meals per day in our country.
- 95% of U.S. elementary and secondary school students are enrolled in schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
- The NSLP began in 1946 and is the largest of the federal child nutrition programs.
October 12, SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED/COLUMBUS DAY.
October 13, Alex Sheen's Because I Said I Would Assembly, 9 AM, PHS. Alex Sheen will be presenting on the value of keeping a promise--no matter how big or small that promise may be--it has value to the person it was made to. He is an ordinary guy who is doing extraordinary things. His non-profit organization became world-wide on September 3, 2013, when Matthew Cordle used one of Alex's promise cards in a youtube video, "I killed a man", in which he promises to "take full responsibility for what he has done..... His message will reinforce the PHS 'Creating Chain Reaction' idea and will also stress the life-saving benefits of taking the safe-driving pledge for Celebrate My Drive. This assembly was made possible by the Parkland School District Education Foundation.
October 14, PHS PINK OUT for Breast Cancer Awareness, all day.
To support Breast Cancer Awareness, the students and staff at PHS will wear pink.
October 14, The ABC's of Bullying - Presented by the Harlem Globetrotters, Schnecksville Elementary School, 9:15 AM.
The Globetrotters designed the program in coordination with the National Campaign to Stop Violence (NCSV). The program focuses on Action, Bravery, and Compassion, comprising the ABCs. For the finale, the player will pick a few kids to join him or her up front to teach them some special Globetrotter ball handling moves.
October 15, Community Advisory Council Meeting, Admin Center, 7 PM.
The topic will be the College Application Process / PHS Student Activities and a presentation will be made by PHS Guidance Counselor Eric Roberts. The public is invited to attend.
October 19-24, Parkland High School Homecoming/Spirit Week
Homecoming’s theme for this year is “One world, many ways to serve” with proceeds supporting the Navy Marine Corps Society. Homecoming week kicks off with the Garter Bowl on Wednesday, October 21. The Homecoming football game and float parade will be on Friday, October 23 followed by the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 24. Homecoming Festivities are organized by Parkland High School Student Council. Julie Wood is the teacher/club advisor.

We’ve got runners from the class of ’85 through ’05 signed up to race in the first ever Alumni Turkey Trot! Register for the Parkland Alumni 5k Turkey Trot and Kid’s Wild Turkey Sprint on Nov 27th at this link. You don’t have to be alumni to register – this is a community-wide event.
