The Fairview Connection
March 5, 2021
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
As you may likely have already heard, at last night’s Board of Education meeting, it was decided that all parents will be given the option to have their child either return to Fairview for full-day in person learning or full-day remote learning. More information will be shared from the district later today about each model and about how and when families will make a selection. I am thankful that we are currently in a place where we are able to make this option available. This has been a difficult year for schools worldwide, and we long for a sense of normalcy. Depending on comfort level and family circumstances, I am grateful that we will still have a remote option for families as well, and I am so proud of our staff and students for how they have continued to make our remote learning robust and meaningful, yielding growth and learning in our students. That said, while the numbers have improved, the pandemic is not over, and I recognize that parents may prefer the current hybrid model that ensures 6 feet of social distancing within our classrooms making this news difficult, as we will no longer be able to have students sitting 6 feet apart. Every school based decision over the past 12 months has elicited a wide range of emotions, so if it would be helpful to talk through next steps for your family relative to the factors you are facing, please know that I am here to help you as you approach the required timeline for making this decision. Once you’ve read through the district’s communication, if you have further questions, please reach out to me. No matter what choice you make, I am very confident in our staff and school that we will effectively support all children as they continue to learn and grow.
In other school news, if you haven’t done so already, I highly encourage you to check out the Fairview PTO Science Fair website to hear from almost 100 of our students about what they learned as a result of their scientific investigations. I encourage parents and students to leave comments to support and encourage those who participated! Also, as shared earlier this week, Wednesday is Picture Day. All hybrid students will have their picture taken during the day on Wednesday. Remote students with last names starting with A-L can come after school for a photo between 3:15-4:15pm and last names M-Z between 4:15-5:15pm. All students who are photographed will be given an option to order photos. If you are not comfortable coming in for a photo but would like to be included in the yearbook, email a picture similar in style to a typical yearbook photo to Mrs. Trezise in the front office at ctrezise@d57.org. Lastly, for a few more updates and student celebrations, please click here for my video newsletter for this week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
PICTURE DAY - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10TH
On Wednesday, March 10th, we will be having Picture Day. By having Picture Day, we will be able to create a yearbook this school year with current photos of our students. If you choose not to have your child's picture taken at this time, but would like your child pictured in the yearbook, please email Chris Trezise at ctrezise@d57.org with the photo of your choice by Friday, March 12th. Similar to a typical picture day photo, any submitted photos should include just your child.
All hybrid students will have their picture taken during the school day. Remote students have the opportunity to get their picture taken after school as well. For all remote students with last names A-L, you can come to Fairview between 3:15-4:15 p.m. Remote students with last names M-Z can come to Fairview between 4:15-5:15 p.m. Please follow these steps if you are coming after school for pictures.
- Have your child enter through the main entrance located on Isabella Street. Their temperature will be taken as they enter the school and they will be escorted to the gym for their photo. Parents can wait outside the main entrance while their child is getting their picture taken.
- While in the gym, students will be required to wear their mask up until the time of their photo. We will have cones spaced six feet apart in the gym to maintain appropriate social distance while students wait for their turn. After their photo, students will exit out the main doors and meet up with parents.
After 5 to 7 days, hybrid students will be sent home with their photo proof. Remote students will receive an email when photo proofs are ready. Parents will be invited to pick up these photos from the vestibule similar to what we currently do for supply pick up. Information on how to order pictures will be provided with your child’s photo proofs. Please click on the graphic to see the flyer from HR Imaging for more details.
CONGRATULATIONS DR. GORR

DONATE TO DISTRICT 57 FAMILIES IN NEED
COVID-19 has presented many unique hardships and challenges for some of our family members, friends and neighbors. Some parents have asked if it’s possible to make a financial donation to help support District 57 families who are currently in need. The District has set up a system to facilitate this for anyone who is interested. We will distribute the collected funds to families, based on formal requests that are made. If you would like to donate, simply go to this link and follow these steps:
- Click on “Make a one-time payment.”
- Fill in your student’s name, school and grade.
- Click “COVID-19 Donation to District 57 Families.”
- Fill in your information and donation amount, then proceed to the payment section.
Thank you so much, in advance, for your kindness and generosity.
Those who are in need of support can fill out this online form. Names will only be seen by select district personnel who are distributing the funds.
Thank you,
