Principal's Message
Dear Members of the KMS Community,
Once again, I would like to thank you for your patience over the past week as we continue to see the number of Covid cases rise. As a reminder to everyone, if you have had your child tested due to symptoms of Covid, please keep your child home until you have received the results. I will continue to send letters and updates as necessary as it’s important to maintain transparency and to share information. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me. I urge all members of our school community to continue to protect themselves and stay healthy.
I sent home RICAS and NGSS parent reports this week via your student. If your child attended Rockwell last year in grade 5 your reports will be sent home next week as we just received them. I apologize for the delay. Honor roll letters are going out at the beginning of next and will be sent home with your student.
The holiday season is now here and we will continue to support families who are in need. The community service club has started a second food drive for families who may be facing food insecurity. They are collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries for the homeless and other members of our community in need. Please consider donating.
The members of the National Junior Honor Society are running a “family game drive” for our community. Please consider donating a new unwrapped board game that will then be sent to needy families.
Next Friday, December 10, marks the mid-way point of the second quarter and grades will be posted and updated in ASPEN. Note that you may view your student’s progress in the family portal.
Wishing you all a great weekend,
Sincerely,
Dennis Morrell
Principal

"DECA is an international high school club that prepares students for their futures in the fields of business, marketing, finance and hospitality. Implementing this club at the middle school level gives younger students an opportunity to be exposed to the basics of business, leadership and community service prior to becoming a member at the high school level. At Mt. Hope, DECA members are the ambassadors of the school and active members of their local and school communities, while actively practicing the principles of business, marketing, finance and hospitality in a real world setting.
One of the main objectives of the Jr. DECA program is to prepare Kickemuit Middle School students for DECA at the high school level as well as real-world learning and working environments through collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking. Jr DECA promotes careers in business, marketing, finance, and hospitality while exposing students to the foundations of DECA.
This year, along with our lessons, we will run a community service project and t-shirt design contest, have snacks and games, and more over ten meetings. We look forward to seeing you there!

A message from our School Nurse
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I want you to continue to thank you for helping me keep our school and community safe. We are still facing a pandemic, which I think we can all say we wish was behind us.
I want to gently remind everyone to continue to keep your child home if he/she is feeling ill and to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Please remember that if you are a close contact or you test positive for COVID-19, you need to be in touch with me in order to get guidance for the safety and wellness of our students and community. If you or your child test positive, it is important that you reach out immediately so that I can help guide you and your family accordingly. You can either email or call me at (401) 245-2400 Ext. 2009. Please keep in mind that absences are medically excused if your child is absent due to COVID-19 related matters.
Please keep in mind that I hope to start scoliosis screenings next month. If you DO NOT want your child screened for scoliosis, please fill out the following google form (link below) by November 12, 2021. It will take less than one minute to fill out. Only fill out this form if you DO NOT want your child screened.

I want to continue to wish you and your family health during this school year and please do not hesitate to reach out.
Best,
Alexia Trainor, RN BSN
I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the following new recommendations from the RI DOH. At this point, NOT ALL SYMPTOMS of COVID-19 make someone a Probable Case.
If someone has any ONE of the following symptoms, he/she is considered a PROBABLE case:
* New Cough
* Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
* New loss of taste or smell.
If someone has any TWO symptoms, then he/she is a PROBABLE case:
* Fever or Chills
* Muscle or body aches
* Headaches
* Sore throat
* Fatigue
* Congestion or runny nose (new)
* Nausea or vomiting
* Diarrhea
Also, there is a new recommendation to allow asymptomatic siblings/household members (both fully vaccinated and unvaccinated) to remain in school pending test results for the symptomatic individuals.
Please reach out with any questions. Alexia.Trainor@bwrsd.org
