A Principal's Perspective
Since Veterans Day is Monday, I asked Tracy Brice, a veteran, to write this week's Principal's Perspective.
To many, military life seems far removed from being a teacher. But honestly, my time in the Navy helped me to develop many strong skills that have carried over to my life in the classroom. The one skill that I hold in highest regard is my sense of commitment. It’s not just a “Yes, I said I would do it, so I will do it” kind of commitment. It’s a DEEP inside my heart commitment to a cause or a group that is more important than me or my feelings. It’s a STRONG commitment that knows no boundaries, no hurdles. It’s a, “This IS going to happen” kind of commitment. In the military, this commitment was to the Navy, my fellow shipmates, and especially, to our great nation. In my classroom, this very same commitment serves my school, my administrators and colleagues, my classroom, and especially my students.

Grammar Note about Veterans Day: "While the holiday is commonly printed as Veteran's Day or Veterans' Day in calendars and advertisements (spellings that are grammatically acceptable), the United States Department of Veterans Affairs website states that the attributive (no apostrophe) rather than the possessive case is the official spelling "because it is not a day that 'belongs' to veterans, it is a day for honoring all veterans.'"[13] from Wikipedia
