Week of August 29, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. OGLESBY
We are looking forward to seeing many of our Jag Parents at our Fall Open House this Thursday, September 1st from 6:00-8:00pm. Parents will have the opportunity to follow their child's schedule for the evening and attend each of their classes to meet their teachers and briefly hear more about each class. Your student will bring home a copy of their schedule on Tuesday so that you can easily find each of their classes and navigate the school on Thursday evening. I also want to encourage you to attend either the Standards Based Grading Parent Presentation or Hidden in Plain Sight that begin at 5:15pm (see below for more information).
This week we will also begin counting tardies for all students. Students have five minutes to get from one class to the next and are considered tardy if they are not in their next period class when the tardy bell rings. Parents will receive updates in Skyward when your child is tardy or absent. Please remind your child of the importance of being in class on time. Tardies are reviewed on a weekly basis and consequences are assigned based on the information shared with students at the beginning of the year in our Grade Level Assemblies.
1st Tardy—Teacher Warning
2nd Tardy--Student Conference with Administrator
3rd Tardy—Parent Contact from Administrator
4th Tardy—Lunch Detention & Parent Call
5th & More—Lunch Detention, After School or Saturday Detention
We also need your support in reminding our students that beginning on Tuesday, September 6th, all interior courtyard doors will be locked except during passing periods. That means that if students are in the hallways after the bells/during class periods they will need to use indoor hallways and doors only or they will not be able to re-enter the school building. The doors will be open during passing periods but will automatically lock with each bell as an added measure for student safety and campus security.
Don't forget that today, August 28th, is the final day to order your class t-shirt. All t-shirts will be delivered to students at lunch by mid-September. Click below to order.
Finally, if you have an announcement or student recognition that you would like included in the Jag E-News, please use this Google Form to submit the required information for future Jag E-News newsletters. The link is available to all parents, students, staff, and community members and will be located at the bottom of the newsletter each week.
Let's have a great week Jags!
Sincerely,
Cholly Oglesby
Principal

ADVISORY UPDATES
Counselor News
Counselors sent an email in Naviance on Tuesday, August 23rd and parents are encouraged to check your inbox and span/junk folders if you did not receive the email. If you did not receive the email, please see what sent below.
"Hello Jaguar Parents,
As educators, we understand student mental health plays a key role in their ability to succeed in school. Fort Bend ISD is committed to working with you, not only in the academic education of your child, but also to ensure students reach their full potential socially and emotionally.
Each year, we provide students an opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings and social/emotional needs using a Needs Assessment. It is our priority to ensure students have timely, responsive, and effective social and emotional support continuously throughout the school year. The Needs Assessment allows us to recognize and respond to students’ social/emotional needs as well as promote the wellness and development for all students.
The Needs Assessment addresses the following areas:
- Social/Emotional supports
- Sense of belonging
- Safety
- Post-secondary readiness
The Needs Assessment may pinpoint a concern, offering us the ability to secure additional assistance for students. This means that the assessment results may be shared with targeted campus and district staff if the assessment results reveal a potential concern. All assessment results will be kept confidential, stored separately from academic records.
Sartartia Middle School will make the Needs Assessment available to students using Naviance from September 19th to September 30th. Students will receive information about the Needs Assessment from their school counseling staff.
If you desire to opt-out of your child completing the Needs Assessment, please use this link: Opt-Out Form. Please do so by Wednesday, August 31, 2022. "

As you may already know, our school and district uses Math and Reading Renaissance Star Assessments to help teachers understand what students know and what they are ready to learn next. These assessments are given throughout the school year to monitor student progress and are administered in the school setting. Part of our normal testing plan includes a fall, beginning of the year assessment. Our Fall Testing Window is August 22-September 9. The assessments will be given during the school day. Parents will receive student score reports via family access in Skyward after the assessment window closes. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s teacher or our Campus Assessment Coordinator, Melissa Ford. For more information about Renaissance Star Assessments, visit the Renaissance parent webpage.
